smusamashah··on Flat Chair by Sara Paculdo
The screws on the bottom will be under lots of strain I imagine
smusamashah··on Xorshift Generators
Yup that is very fair. Native speakers can pick out real LLM content much better, which I am not.
smusamashah··on Samuel – mimic your speech using Pink Trombone with a model
Demo video by the creator https://x.com/vvolhejn/status/2089403376312197130
smusamashah··on Low-Tech Ceramic Water Filter
Correct, it does not. It is to keep water cool using similar (or may be same) principle. We also now have similar water tanks with taps (we call them coolers) made of clay. They don't filter but are made with similar stuff as a ghara only shaped like a tank with a tap like those Brazillan ones in parent's link.
smusamashah··on Low-Tech Ceramic Water Filter
This sound like Ghara https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghara which is very common in rural areas in subcontinent. It keeps water cool in summer. It gives water a very nice earthy taste. Ghara is usually paired with a clay bowl to drink water.

If you can buy a clay bowl or glass, get it and keep water in it on your side and drink from. It will be cool and will have a very nice earthy flavour. But not all clay pots are same quality. Some are not very porous and won't cool the water or give you different taste.

Then I am very sorry about that, I feel bad and should read more carefully next. I only glanced at first few paragraphs and encountered this line which is a very common LLM trope. I could see that article is long and has lots of images and other stuff but I could see em dashes too. As no one else had said that yet, I did.

But I do want to say that this 'witch hunt' is OK. We should keep calling out AI content which is mostly effortless to keep actual effort by humans separate from this flood of content.

smusamashah··on CEO who fired 900 people on Zoom just before Christmas wants his job back
Oh wow! He actually said that dumb dolphins line in email https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59554585
smusamashah··on Show HN: iPhone app takes simultaneous images from 2 lenses, fuses into 1 photo
It does not look like the lenses are firing at exact same time. It can be seen more clearly where subjects are moving (woman with her baby in pool for example).

Is that a limitation of operating system? I imagine if it is possible to do that at exact moment, some further processing might be possible

smusamashah··on Stowaway – Take the window seat on any plane or satellite overhead
Please add a way to put in my exact long+lat location. Currently it is a slider which is not exact and search bar does not show my exact location. I am hoping to see the airplanes out of my window and then see them in this app.
smusamashah··on 27x Faster Terminal Text Effects Rust Port
https://x.com/i/status/2086590006898958752 tweet by author who is also the developer of Ruby on Rails
smusamashah··on Show HN: Voice driven murder mystery, Interview AI suspects with your voice
Please add a demo video/voice where you show someone asking questions and AI answering it. I wanted to see what it is like but dont want to signup.
smusamashah··on I'm switching my phone from Android to Linux
Now that making apps is easy, and it's the apps and eco system etc that makes an OS take off and adopt, starting a new OS for phone like devices shouldn't be as big of a problem as it used to be.

Given fair phone exists, it should now be able to get all kind of apps anyone wants.

smusamashah··on Position: LLMs Can't Jump
If it is smart enough to generate data it can consume to train itself better, it is already smart enough to not need to do that.
smusamashah··on Show HN: Isopolis – isometric pixel map of SF
i remember seein men in black here
smusamashah··on How Google helped destroy adoption of RSS feeds (2023)
When chrome took the stage, it was the only popular browser that didn't display rss feeds XML in a readable way. It still does not to this day.
smusamashah··on Advancing the price-performance frontier with GPT‑5.6
I wish Sonnet 4.6 gets the similar low pricing. It is also a very good model and I can keep using it forever. It would be more awesome if it is burned on the Taalas chip.
smusamashah··on Agent Skill to Force Docs in ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English
I have something like "no over enthusiasm, and less marketing please. Also I have ADHD and therefore get distracted easily" in my agents.md. It made responses way more digestible and to the point.
smusamashah··on KOReader
I have KOReader on Kindle. But its UI is very odd. Recently found plugins and patches. After installing a few something was causing weird errors. Gave Claude KOReader log and it found comic reader plugin to be the problem.

Then I installed a fast reader plugin, claude fixed its flashing and added more features. Being able to SSH via KOReader and letting an LLM fix or improve things is so awesome and freeing.

smusamashah··on Kimi K3 built a Windows XP in browser
People have been making these with AI for at least a year now. This a very underwhelming show off.
smusamashah··on Show HN: Minesweeper Raycasted
This is the most honest Show HN I have seen here in recent times.
smusamashah··on Unitree As2-W
I want to see it performing in sand or in very dry soil environment too. They didn't show that in these videos.
smusamashah··on PCjs Machines
A somewhat relative list of in-browser VMs https://gist.github.com/SMUsamaShah/6379649c0cbade9abc02b242...
smusamashah··on I built a browser-based P2P file transfer tool using WebRTC
https://gist.github.com/SMUsamaShah/fd6e275e44009b72f64d0570... I keep a handy list. Does this stream file directly to disc or keep it in browser cache or memory? In this list I think only web wormhole does that which means it should be able to transfer huge files without any problem. Most tools crash if files are in GBs.
smusamashah··on Designing emoji for the way we communicate today
I always found them bland. They are not distinctive enough, just like Google's icons.
smusamashah··on Designing emoji for the way we communicate today
I am glad emojis have stayed aways from modern icon designers (or directors?). I did get a little panic looking at 3d version at a glance that are we slowly making them corporate bland too? So far we haven't done that to general ones. Google's own blob emojis are bland though, they will take us there if these were all up to them.
smusamashah··on Photos of items from families in different countries with different incomes
Click the Families dropdown. There are many other things, including beds, pets, toys and teeth.
smusamashah··on Show HN: BillAI Bass, an AI-Powered Big Mouth Billy Bass Using Strands Agents
If there is a small model that can run on a low powered device you might be able to use that too so that it is all self contained.

It will think (generate tokens) throughout the day, then convert that to voice and save it and will keep generating so on. Every time it is poked, it will play one of the saved recordings.

smusamashah··on The real prices of frontier models
Instead of getting offended by a fair criticism you should learn from it. In your articles consider adding a disclaimer that says exactly what you just said here in your comment here that you post-processed your voice and thoughts through LLM.

LLM speak is like the new corporate speak. Enterprise writing is fulll of fluff and nothings and they all read the same. That sameness is what most readers here are sick of.

(Your comment here that I replied to is also written by AI which is even more sad :| )

smusamashah··on Croc: Securely transfer files and folders between two computers
I keep a list of mostly browser based and some cli, p2p file sending tools in like croc. https://gist.github.com/SMUsamaShah/fd6e275e44009b72f64d0570...
