I don't even know what most of these tools have to do with "sexiness" and find myself angry that people just enjoy. Is there any possible critics over there or is everything supposed to be considered as (awesome|cool|hip|sexy)?
The problem for me is not superior VS inferior or impressive VS unimpressive software but free software VS closed software.
People got too fascinated by the shinny colorful reflection of CDs.
"Central server" for Syncthing sounds a bit weird though.
Inkscape can be considered as a good professional tool for creative people because it's slogan "Draw Freely" is honored: once you got the basic rules about vector drawing and that you stick with it, you can create something, you won't create something because the tool created it for you by guiding you in a manner that will influence your work too much.
This is how I understand "Draw Freely", that resonate with the GNU/GPL freedom.

That's why there are some organisations that fight for the right for people to buy a computer without Windows installed-by-default and get the money reimburse if they opt-out of the OS package.

This is actually what FSF claims to do as far as I understand. GPL is a law hack.
