smaps··on Man Who Introduced Millions to Bitcoin Says Blockchain Is a Bust
That is a good point to add! With my comment "a competitor calling his competition a bust" I just wanted to make sure people took what he said with a grain of salt. If you hadn't read up on Bitcoin/blockchains/Ripple before it could be easily overlooked.

> “Blockchains are a pain to work with,” wrote Thomas, the chief technology officer of Ripple Labs.

One thing to note is that he works for Ripple Labs, which created another protocol that is similar to Bitcoin/anything blockchain based... so it's pretty much a competitor calling their competition a bust.

You're definitely right about the consolidation of influence... as someone who was a mod on bitcointalk.org and /r/bitcoin for years I hate it and it drove me to leave both of those behind.
smaps··on Small Batch, Fresh Spice Blend Subscription
The image up top on http://rawspicebar.com/how-it-works/ is clickable, just FYI. It seems to be the only one that's like that.

Also, cool idea overall. I'm thinking I may have to give this a shot as I don't know crap about spices. Having someone put together stuff for me would make cooking a lot easier.

smaps··on Lessons Learned from a Shark Tank Survivor
The pajama idea seemed to play pretty well for you, I noticed it when watching the episode. All of the sharks seemed surprised by both of your backgrounds after the first impression.

How much of a bump in sales/interest have you gotten from being on Shark Tank?

I hadn't heard of Lux before, but I've been using Twilight on my Android and I like it. Will have to check out Lux to see if it's better.

I don't think they are selling anything right now, so they don't need to be saying much yet.

>There is one transaction block issued every 10 minutes.

Just to clarify for anyone new to bitcoin... blocks aren't "issued" every 10 minutes exactly. On average there is a new block found every 10 minutes (or so).

smaps··on Bitcoin Developer Guide
I think it's possible to do that, though that wouldn't really be Bitcoin anymore. If the difficulty were fluctuating with the same amount of computing power out there, the block time would be changing a lot.

This would make for different amounts of bitcoins being released rather than the (fairly) predictable current schedule.

The big value is not having to completely trust the person holding the money. As of right now if you do escrow you transfer money to a third party, who has the option of taking it and running.

With a correctly setup transaction, bitcoins can be held in escrow that require 2 of 3 people to approve moving it. This means that you/seller, you/escrow, or seller/escrow are the only 3 combos to get the bitcoins out. There's no way for the escrow agent to steal the money.

Is this a new thing? I haven't seen a comprehensive list like this for bitcoin tech specs before, and I do follow bitcoin waaaaaay too much.

Seems like this will be a very useful thing with more people starting to use bitcoin!

smaps··on Microsoft accepting Bitcoin
This was my first thought as well. They have tons of merchants using them, but I don't think a big percentage are high volume. So it could easily be that 50% of merchants keep some bitcoin, but only 2% of volume is kept that way.

smaps··on Why does Outlook map Ctrl+F to Forward instead of Find?
I am a mortgage company underling and can confirm that almost everyone at my company, and the realtors we deal with, use tons of emoticons. I think it's the only way everyone manages to stay sane in this business.
