slowmotarget··on Node v9.8.0
I'd say it really depends on what you want to to do in the next months ! Node can be a very productive environment for web APIs and applications (with great frameworks such as Express or Koa and amazing libraries such as PassportJS) and I personally use it this way 95% of my time. But in its heart lies the event-loop, the streams, the pipes, its functional programming capabilities and all of this makes it a simple and very pleasant way to script, transform, to build algorithms or neural networks! Plus javascript is becoming a very friendly language as Node and ES6 leveled the browser inconsistencies that turned web developers crazy in the past.
slowmotarget··on Ask HN: Back end engineer webapps for too long, what to do next?
Try to find a startup near you that's currently looking for a tech lead / CTO, you'll do more than CRUD hopefully!

Well that was my quickest github star ever
slowmotarget··on Ask HN: Who were your first 10 hires?
We're working on a module for popular e-commerce platforms that will unify referral / customer loyalty and membership rewards!
slowmotarget··on Ask HN: Who were your first 10 hires?
French Startup here, created in 2016. We're developing a SaaS software for e-commerce merchants. First we hired a back-end dev, then a full time graphic designer / illustrator, because we think it's crucial to have a strong visual identity.

If your poll image is fetched from a webserver you manage, maybe you could use a simple cookie on your domain, named after the poll UUID and containing the user's vote ?

Really nice idea and execution!

My two cents:

- IP restriction is not fair (lots of developers in big companies may vote only once because of their employer public IP)

- Is there a way to use your polls without having to install a software on my computer ? Like a webapp ?

Genius!

I definitely like the idea, but don't you think that it will be hard to get your app installed on end-users devices ? IMHO You'll have to use a completely different vocabulary on your landing to convince them to download it on an app store.

Nota : couldn't download the app from the website (latest chrome, OSX)

slowmotarget··on Use PNG image compression to send large numbers of rows to the browser
I found this lib while searching for a PNG compression module and loved the "outside the box" thinking behind the idea!
