sleepless··on Messenger Comparisons – Threema, Signal, Telegram and WhatsApp
XMPP sadly is not part of the comparison.
sleepless··on GitHub Source Code Leak
Are there plans to address "Setup gpg signing" for the desktop app? https://github.com/desktop/desktop/issues/78
sleepless··on All forms of signing email are generally solving the wrong problem
It has been fixed in OpenPGP. Are you aware of any fix for S/MIME so far?
sleepless··on All forms of signing email are generally solving the wrong problem
S/MIME is broken and impossible to fix since https://efail.de/ How are you coming to the conclusion it would be excellent?
sleepless··on Firefox 79
Right, you mean the content Mozilla shoves into new tab. I disabled this the first time I saw it. Not going down in the browser I use. Should it ever be impossible to disable, I'll switch browser in a blink.
sleepless··on Firefox 79
home page bloat? person woman man camera tv?

Care to share more details?

sleepless··on Firefox 79
For what it's worth elastic bounce when scrolling to top / bottom of website has never been supported which feels very wrong on macOS. Mozilla doesn't seem to care or not care enough to patch: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1124108

From what I can tell scrolling works fine and speed can be adjusted for personal needs in macOS.

sleepless··on Amazon gets priority while mail gets delayed, say US letter carriers
Do we need "net neutrality" for mail?
sleepless··on Apple Mail randomly becomes the frontmost application in macOS
Try rebuilding your mail index. You can use OnyX for that.
sleepless··on Nasty macOS flaw is bricking MacBooks: Don't install this update
Apple has historically been lacking on proper documentation. Be that on errors happening during updates or proper documentation of what exactly they have changed in software updates. They have slightly improved, but still not great.
sleepless··on Nasty macOS flaw is bricking MacBooks: Don't install this update
Wouldn't it be fantastic, if Apple had an easy way to help users learn, why their mac woke up? Currently that is complex scientific work.
sleepless··on Jitsi Meet features update
It's a bit amazing that now that the public attention is here, work is starting to improve Firefox after it was neglected for many years.
sleepless··on Apple's MacOS Server has a 1.5/5 rating on the Mac App Store
True, but in germany they disallowed rating macOS Catalina. That's a very shady policy - having a rating system for all developers, but excluding your own most prominent and important software from store reviews. Just one of many hilarious Apple moves.
sleepless··on A Guide to Managing Remote Teams
Bitrix24 is surely not "one of the best remote collaboration platforms". Had to use that service some time ago in a job and it was a convoluted experience.
sleepless··on Bye Bye Microsoft Office, Hello LibreOffice
MS made a deal, to keep german headquarters in Munich. The price for that was to kill Limux. Sad story actually and doesn't put the responsible politicians in the best light. But in Bavaria the political party CSU is known to be susceptible to ideas from the industrial lobby.

Here's a recent interview with Christian Ude who was mayor when LiMux was introduced (german): https://www.golem.de/news/von-microsoft-zu-linux-und-zurueck...

sleepless··on A uBlock Origin update was rejected from the Chrome Web Store
It probably will be. Mozilla frequently moves extensions from Labs (which existed then got cancelled, and now has been reinstated iirc) to core Firefox.
sleepless··on A uBlock Origin update was rejected from the Chrome Web Store
Very annoying, especially if you are testing stuff or debugging in firefox and frequently change profiles. Also disabling seems to reset all settings for the container add-on which is not great to put it mildly.
sleepless··on A uBlock Origin update was rejected from the Chrome Web Store
I love it. Wish container settings would be synced though: https://github.com/mozilla/multi-account-containers/issues/3... #1 most requested feature so there's hope, although it's been open for over two years. Maybe now that the new bookmark sync mechanism is rolled out in Firefox 70, the sync team may have capacity for a new task.
sleepless··on Firefox 66.0 Aims to Reduce Online Annoyances
2015-01-25 Support elastic overscroll (rubberbanding) on macOS: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1124108

sleepless··on Enter the Matrix – A technical overview and guide to all things Matrix
Just a user, but I think Matrix needs to

- work on stability: the status quo is unreliable. Until this is solved it's hard to recommend Matrix to anybody who is looking to use it for serious work

- disable signup on main server: this is a decentralized netword and the main server is overloaded already. It is overloaded so badly, that devs decided to turn off presence for as long as I can remember first seeing matrix. So even IRC is more usable in that regard because I know when I see a user they are online or they even have presence and an away message

There's more but those are two issues I think should be dealt with urgently.

sleepless··on VLC maintainer has refused “several tens of millions of Euro”
Is there an existing ticket for redirects?
sleepless··on VLC maintainer has refused “several tens of millions of Euro”
Key question indeed. And HSTS would be the cream on top. But let's start with redirects.
sleepless··on VLC maintainer has refused “several tens of millions of Euro”
Awesome. Thanks a lot! Can we now add SSL to the website please, since VLC already appeared as attack vector in tools like FinFisher.
sleepless··on Websites offering pirated papers are shaking up science
University research is funded by the state in germany. Research results should thus live in the public domain.

I have no pity for those artificial paywall companies, benefiting from research funded with tax money. This model needs to change - fast. And the change should be supported by legislation.

sleepless··on Google starts tracking what people buy in physical stores
Cash is a great invention.
sleepless··on OpenPGP really works
What would you consider a sane key rotation cycle? 1 Month? 1 year, 2 years, 4 years?
sleepless··on OpenPGP really works
I have been using OpenPGP for years without problems. Key transition / exchange / verification can be a bit painful, but actually it is not that hard.

Also the longer you use OpenPGP, the less keys need to be verified. The start is very hard, since you start with no trusted keys at all. The longer you use it, the more fluent usage becomes.

Have been using GPG Suite on macOS and the only problem is, you may not get support for the new macOS on day 1 since apple provides no API for Mail.app. And then again, giving Apple some time to figure out their bugs of the intial major release isn't a bad idea.

sleepless··on Firefox 47 Release Notes
Nice update. Three finger tap dictionary lookup has been fixed for OS X 10.11. But we'll have to wait until v49 to see this in stable.

Please fix the services menu issues on OS X next: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1261299 Bug is assigned, so looking forward to that.
