slake··on Lunar landing via a linear accelerator (1977)
True.. But maybe a Aircraft carrier harness sort of system that adds a high friction carriage after you hook into it may be better.
slake··on Ask HN: Anything better than Tableau for data viz, dashboards?
I'm a user. I haven't found something as good.
slake··on Embed Node.js on any website
So we brought JavaScript to the server from the browser and now we can embed it back in the browser? Excellent!
slake··on India Replaces China as Next Big Frontier for U.S. Tech Companies
I'm still not convinced that the internet.org version of net neutrality violation is a bad thing. If it gives access to several million people even a limited set of services, I think it's still a net positive. Sure Facebook makes money on it but why do I care!
slake··on Edward Snowden's Fermi Paradox Solution
Even if the communications were encrypted we should still be able to listen for the repeated patterns in their 'ascii' / 'unicode' codeset.
slake··on Why drivers in China intentionally kill the pedestrians they hit
I live in India. The rest of the country ratio is similar here. We have hit and run cases too, very high profile ones. Not the worst ones come back to ensure they've killed a 3 yr old!
slake··on World Airports Voronoi
Lol! Engines Turn or Passengers Swim! Excellent.
slake··on World Airports Voronoi
This is really cool. If I remember right international passenger flight regulations insist that there be atleast one airport that can handle your class of aircraft within 180 minutes of flying time at one engine operative speeds at all times. If we assume a passenger jet flies at roughly 0.8 Mach or ~960 kph, and one-engine operative speed is roughly 40% of that or ~384 KPH. That means an airport needs to be within a circle of radius 1152 kms. That's an area of ~4.16M km-squared. Simplifying that all airports can handle all passenger jets, not one of those voronoi cells can have an area greater than 4.16M km-squared.

Is there an easy way to calculate the area of each cell?

Did I mention this is really cool!!

slake··on A simpler web architecture using React, Flux, CSP, and FRP concepts
How does this scale to multiple views, models, etc?
slake··on Fake Diplomas, Real Cash: Pakistani Company Axact Reaps Millions
Hmm. Are you suggesting that this is a hit back at ISI who may have fingers in Axact for the revelation about ISI agent's role in Bin Laden killing? Very interesting!
slake··on Markdown to Responsive HTML Email
This doesn't inline the CSS does it? Maybe that's a feature you could add. Very cool anyway!
slake··on Robin Williams, Oscar-Winning Comedian, Dies at 63
A little bit of happiness has gone out of this world. RIP Robin Williams.
slake··on Show HN: Cockpit – Self-hosted API-driven CMS. Manage content once
This is excellent. It's a good frontend for gathering content to deploy on static sites. Getting non-techies to write Markdown is still somewhat of a pain.
slake··on Is there a global Internet slowdown
Yeah.. It's not just my office internet, my home, A webservice in the UK I use, some US web services. Gmail has been choppy recently.
slake··on Gmail is down
I think it's an India only thing.
slake··on Building an AngularJS Directive for Cat Videos
Shouldn't the final template have a {{code}} after embed/ in the src attribute?
slake··on SendGrid Fires Company Evangelist After Twitter Fracas
That is just wrong.
slake··on Google Reader shutting down
Wow. That's a lot of angst. I feel it too. Years of saving useful links on reader which was really easy to search.
slake··on Ask HN :Would a totally free jobs site work?
Exactly what I am afraid of. But maybe there can be a crowdsourced mechanism to prevent that from happening.
slake··on Ask HN: Why aren't there enough C & C++ Web frameworks?
Yeah but if CRUD alone was what's important, doubt the world would have gone far beyond PHP, right?
slake··on Ask HN: Why aren't there enough C & C++ Web frameworks?
You're right on the pointer arithmetic though. But JS callbacks are pretty confusing too. But ppl learn it because they have to.
slake··on Ask HN: Why aren't there enough C & C++ Web frameworks?
Is C & C++ really worse than Java at strings? Don't think so but I'm not sure. Can't imagine they're far apart.
slake··on Ask HN: Why aren't there enough C & C++ Web frameworks?
Sweet I'll check it out.
slake··on Ask HN: Why aren't there enough C & C++ Web frameworks?
Well isn't that really because nodejs has the V8 engine behind it which has created enough helper functions and libraries to make it easy to make a webapp on. Otherwise there isn't much on the barebones JS language itself to build a webapp is there? If C/C++ got those frameworks wouldn't they have had these libraries built as well.
slake··on Ask HN: Your favorite to-do list or task manager?
If you have the discipline to use pen and paper I'd recommend that. Else Asana!
slake··on Ask HN: If you had 5 years of uninterrupted time, what would you build and why?
SAAS applications to disrupt the enterprise software sphere.

Primarily a full featured generic workflow engine with a customizable frontend to boot! I think this application would be able to replace 60% of all corporate apps.

slake··on Show HN: API for Rendering and Sending Transactional Email Templates
Wow. Isn't this pricey for a pretty straightforward API?
slake··on Poll: Do you select text while reading?
Yes. All the time!
slake··on Ask HN: Review my startup - www.JetDeck.co
I'm a bit confused. Is this a seller's screen or a buyers screen or is it the same for both? Is the "My Deck" basically my inventory? And if I add it in there is there marketplace sort of screen where I as a buyer (Not that I'm buying a million dollar jet tomorrow - maybe next week) would go and find what's available?
