At least in other Google emails, there will be an option to disconnect but this one doesn't have it. The fine print at the bottom says this is 'mandatory'. I know I can apply a filter to get rid of it but that's not the point.

If you follow Basel II or III regulations, you will know how hard it has been for the regulators to convince the banks to increase their tier-1 capital. The banks are happy to pile on more debt rather than raise more equity capital (the purest form of capital) as debt is cheaper and comes with nice tax benefits. The financial crisis of 2008 was exacerbated because of leverage (another way of saying lots of debt).
While this can certainly reduce leverage in the banking sector, the author raises the question of start-ups vs. big companies. Big companies have massive balance sheets and will generally be able to borrow at much better rates whether or not there is tax incentive. If an up and coming start-up is amazing, I am sure there will be 100s of equity investors who will be willing to throw money at it. I wouldn't worry about this impacting them.
That said, this will not fly in the US. So much for logical reasoning.
What I find really frustrating with most of these fintech companies is that they claim they use all kinds of data. But they don't really disclose whether this is used for 'underwriting' or 'fraud'. When it comes to underwriting there are specific FCRA guidelines on reason codes. For example, if they decline credit to a consumer because s/he did not type in their address fast enough, they need to tell them that. That would make for a good sound bite for the company.
Also, what if disabled people cannot type fast enough? That seriously touches on discrimination. Too bad CFPB is not going to care about these companies until they get to $10Bn in loan size.
Bing Websearch is clear enough but it took me a while to figure out what Spotlight Suggestion is. It looks like it gives you movie recommendations.
If there is more to the code, I would like to know what else I should disable. Also, ideally would like to know what I am giving up by disabling them.
"During the announcement, T-Mobile’s John Legere assured the audience that their initial picks for streaming services wasn’t any sort of competitive/business move. Rather, it was a matter of technical implementation. They’ve got to manually configure the network to whitelist each service’s myriad data sources, so they picked just eight to start. The goal, Legere says, is to include “every music streaming service” in the program; moving forward, they’ll invite customers to vote on which services get added next."

Thunderbird should also import mbox
I am a bit paranoid about my Gmail account so I use the Mail.app to download the emails and then I back it up. If my account gets locked for whatever reason, 'Download Data' option is not going to exist. So better to backup through other means as well.
I guess with Import.io if something breaks, you will have to redo the scraping logic. Maybe PE will manage that on the users behalf and that's their value add? Looks like PE may be doing some intelligent scraping as well (not everyone is going to list Dell LCD Monitors $400 in their title but they will do the normalization for you -- just a guess).
I have used import.io and it works very well for most sites and it is fairly easy to create a scraper.
Apple posted better than expected earnings and revenue for its fourth-quarter on Monday, but shares still took a hit in after-hours trading.
The tech giant posted $8.26 a share on $37.5 billion in revenue. The street estimated the company would post $7.96 a share on revenue of $36.93 billion. But investors were disappointed with guidance for gross margins.
During the current quarter, the company expects gross margins of 36.5 percent to 37.5 percent, which missed forecasts of 37.9 percent.
If a minority represents only 0.01% of the entire population, odds of finding them camping is going to be very low unless that said activity is something very, very common amongst that ethnic group.
Having said that, I somehow do not see a lot of African Americans when I hike/camp.

I tried looking list of people who have received honorary doctorate degrees from Harvard but couldn't find the entire list. But it is not in the summary list they have. (All this additional info from here: http://www.chandallc.com/index.php?p=1_4_About)
Ramanujan asks the teacher, if there are zero people in the class and there are zero apples, will each person still get one apple?
I am not sure how old he was at that time but going by the topic, must have been in middle school. Amazing how his mind worked even at that young an age...
I believe the story was also mentioned in The Man Who Knew Infinity (but don't remember if the narrative is the same or not).
