siphr··on New NSA docs contradict 9/11 claims
You can only see a heading without any content. Anybody has this cached?
siphr··on [dead]
I think this one just tipped the balance. Otherwise it was fine :)
siphr··on XeTeX: could it be TeX's saviour?
In all honesty I did not realise LaTeX needed saving.
siphr··on Ask HN: How do you consume your readings online?
I have recently started using Instapaper with its iOS application. This setup is working for me very well. I do read a lot but I also find that a lot of times I find something (on the desktop/laptop/phone) that I'd like to read but do not have the time to do so immediately. Queuing such things under Instapaper (and letting it clear out all the clutter), helps me pick it up later regardless of where and when. I'd highly recommend it.
siphr··on You can now run Arch & Debian Linux on a Raspberry Pi
I agree. I have tried different distributions and am currently settled on Arch. I love it. It worked for me straight out of the box and currently functions as my home server. I might try Raspberry when it is back in stock.
siphr··on Valve working on 'Steam Box' gaming console with hardware partners
I second this as well. I think the spot light on eye candy due to mass appeal, for the past few years, has shifted the focus from game play it self which is what games are really about. I'd take a clever and fun game over a glossy one any day.
siphr··on On switching to Arch Linux
I suppose, at the end of the day. It is all about an individual's preference. The gift of Linux is Choice. Having said that I've used Arch for the past 4 years or so and I have to admit that, for me at least, it is a beautiful thing. I've never had any issues with it what so ever. The box stays up for months on end without problems, except for the times when there is no power :). Pacman, is by far the most straight forward package manager I've come across. The control it lets you have on what you install on the system (the minimalist approach) is just wonderful. The blog makes it sound a bit intimidating when it really isn't. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
siphr··on Why I'm a Pirate
zalthor: You've highlighted a very important point here. One which a lot of people overlook and that is the unavailability of the content in most south-east-asian countries. Piracy, I believe, is the norm there and if it were not for piracy most of the countries over there would be severely lacking in terms of knowledge and awareness of a specific domain (for e.g: cultural awareness in terms of movies and music piracy).

Having said that I think it is also quite difficult for the "greedy" companies to sell in these countries at the price points that would have suitable returns. This is because of the fact that the masses in these countries simply cannot afford to pay that much. This does not necessarily mean they should suffer for it.

So, pirates are actually heroes in these regions no matter what anybody says because a genuine audience/market for them exists in poor/sanctioned countries around the world. SOPA or whatever other concoction they have in the rabbit hat, would do very little to affect the usual business of the day.

siphr··on Top programming languages from jobs advertised on Twitter
I thought YouTube already supported HTML5 players? I remember trying something, but perhaps it is in beta.
siphr··on Sean Parker's Email to Daniek Ek of Spotify
Guilty but satisfied. :)
siphr··on China: Man builds flying contraption powered by eight motorcycle engines
Marked down by -4? Are you people anti chinese or something? All I said was very nice.
siphr··on China: Man builds flying contraption powered by eight motorcycle engines
Very nice.
siphr··on One-electron universe
I have a similar theory, of which the idea is, INF ... multiverse ... universe ... earth ... atom .. electron ... multiverse ... repeat ... INF
siphr··on One-electron universe
By that definition everything is nothing. Matter holds states in variable conditions. Bricks are in a state to allow houses to be built. Everything is nothing. It's all states on a timeline. :)
siphr··on Weird, Birdlike Mystery Drone Crashes in Pakistan
Quite right. There is one that is the size of a small humming bird as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they're bein used as well. It may be almost impossible to spot them.
siphr··on Are Free Phones in Our Future? A VC’s Take on Why Google is Buying Motorola
It is a definite possibility. I think they key factor is that if the net revenue generated by advertising and/or other means per motorola/google android device is reasonable in relation to the cost per device then ofcourse there is monies to be had.
siphr··on How DuckDuckGo got in Time's best websites
I am not surprised. DuckDuckGo is a pretty good search engine. I am getting more and more dependant on their bang "!" syntax.
siphr··on Wolfenstein 1D
I know exactly what you mean. I have stopped classifying many of the new ones as games. Instead I refer to most of them as Interactive experiences which is more suited to them for what they do.
siphr··on A writer leaves Microsoft Word
I can honestly recommend Scrivener for both technical and non-technical writing. I use that application regularly and have nothing but respect for the developer. From an engineering point of view, it is a great example that demonstrates the developer's understanding of the problem domain. Little things that make all the difference.
siphr··on Pretty IP Address lookup
I think the purpose of the page was purely asthetics not functionality.
siphr··on AsciiFlow - diagram & wireframe tool
Just what I always wanted. Hats off to you sir. My code documentation is going to get a makeover.
siphr··on How to remove yourself from all background check websites
Is it just me or is there something logically broken about the idea of giving these websites all your information so that they do not have all that information about you?
siphr··on Games company claims their graphics are 100,000x better
I think it is true but it is hype. Assuming it is based on voxels, then the earliest game engine to have used the technology (to my knowledge) is probably Blade Runner circa 1990s. The hardware at that time, ofcourse, dictated the quality of the tech at that time. By extrapolation I would say this is very much possible but may not be such a huge deal as it is made out to be. The results however could be amazing if widely adopted by the industry.
siphr··on Games company claims their graphics are 100,000x better
So when they say atoms do they mean voxels or is it something else?
siphr··on Sublime Text 2 Build 2091
I am thinking exactly the same. I am primarily a vim user and even though Sublime Text 2 looks good, I am not sure how it compares. I might go and look for some feature comparisons.
siphr··on Spotify Sued For Patent Infringement Just Weeks After Entering US Market
Somebody wants a piece of that pie.
siphr··on Every language fixes something - a DiGraph - just for fun
This is definitely worth a bookmark. It must've taken some considerable time to create but is of great value. I find it to be a quick reference to see how the languages differ from each other. Very nice.
siphr··on Symfony 2.0 is now available
I stand corrected then.
siphr··on Symfony 2.0 is now available
I love it how I get marked down for a clean post with an opinion and you get a pass by declaring people idiots for just expressing their opinion. The way I see it the idiots seem to be on your side. Just learn to express your side of things without getting irritated. I am open to correction but insults I'd piss on.
siphr··on Symfony 2.0 is now available
Same here. No Idea where this came from. To be honest the effort put into this could've just contributed to an existing open source framework for improvement.
