sinab··on Bee-friendly insecticides closer to reality after breakthrough development
"Like a teensy vampire, a Varroa mite attaches to the body of the bee and sucks out its internal, bloodlike fluid. During this sucking, the mite passes deformed wing virus (DWV) directly into its host's body. Once the bees start to show the resulting deformation, they usually die within 48 hours."

Thats pretty nuts! But it seems like this might have been isolated to Hawaii but possible in locations where varroa and deformed wing virus co-occur. Though lack of biodiversity appears to make bees more susceptible to diseases which lead to colony collapse disorder (CCD) [1].

sinab··on Lessons of an MIT Education
I think I would disagree. One of the aspects of an MIT education (c/o 2017) was the fact that we were forced to decipher problems from statements in a similar way that one would be forced to do so in real life. Problems should (and almost never do) come packaged in a neat and nice way that is easy to solve, hence why I believe that word problems and sometimes confusing problem statements are beneficial.
sinab··on Show HN: Interviewing MIT Faculty about their personal lives
Hi all! My team has been working on this project for about 6 months and our goal is to show students that MIT faculty members have crazy life stories and really cool personalities. We aim to make it easier for students to approach professors and to secure research.

Hope you enjoy!
