The singularity and AGI are apocalypse for atheists.
An immigrant can’t take jobs from citizens, since jobs aren’t property owned by citizens. Jobs are trades (an agreement, a relationship) between two people. Do I really need to explain that a job isn’t an entitlement you get for being a citizen? I think you know this.
No matter how many immigrants come here, they can’t steal the fruits of your labor. Immigrants aren’t reaching into your bank account and taking your money.
The fucking hot dog stand at my neighborhood park is in better financial shape than these toxic scam businesses like Uber or We.
Morale undermining command and control is a real issue in the military and a frequent issue historically.
You’re really a founder. Ask for 10-30%.
No you don’t need React to publish some words on the web.
An MVP is not defined by time to build, but by the minimum necessary to build to make the very first sale. MVP is the minimum necessary to capture the Minimum Viable Audience. That could be a landing page or it could be a spreadsheet or it could be a complex app. It could be a game demo. The point is only build the minimum to be able to capture a customer and iterate.
An MVP is not associated with a time frame at all. YC is wrong. Just read The Lean Startup which popularized the term.
As a founder I’m pretty sick of these unrealistic platitudes tossed around by VCs and accelerators. It’s not educating anyone.
How could that possibly be more work than integrating API calls to a third party service just to ascertain a few (mostly unchanging) values?
Stop bikeshedding formats and random features (likes, bookmarks, etc) and focus 100% on getting Webmention and rel="in-reply-to" working smoothly and integrated across the blogosphere.
Build on what works, instead of rejecting the entire blogosphere because of some guy's pet project. Forget about bikeshedding microformats and micropub/microsub APIs.
IndieWeb talks a lot about "standards" and interoperability and all this crap but at the end of the day the focus is mostly "let's replace Atom with microformats to do the same things, and argue about how to encode likes and bookmarks." The NIH syndrome regarding replacing Atom/RSS with microformats is incredibly counter-productive.
Start with replies to blog articles, build consensus, build software support, make it a success. THEN move onto replicating Facebook. Webmentions/replies can be done today with Atom/RSS. Just think if all that time spent on microformats was spent building support for webmentions/replies in existing tech stacks!
Meanwhile software “engineers” are using programming languages that eschew logic, reject reason, reject mathematics, reject determinism, and do different things each time you run them.
Yeah I’ll take a spreadsheet over whatever ball of confusion software engineers are chasing their tail with.
When someone says "this thing is valued at $5" it means someone traded or is willing to trade $5 for that thing. It doesn't have anything to do with what you can use that thing for.
Yes, water is "valuable" as something to drink. That has little to do with what someone paid for some water.
“Value” is measured by what someone paid. Nothing more, nothing less. If I buy an apple from you for $5, that means both of us valued the apple at $5. The end.
To understand how meaningless the notion of intrinsic value is, ask yourself what the intrinsic value of water is? Drinking it? Bathing with it? Swimming in it? Cooking with it? Watering a garden with it? Washing a car with it?
Different people value water for different uses at different times for different amounts... there is no dollar value intrinsic to the water itself.
But to each their own. I don't want to have to read documentation in order to write some words using my keyboard.
Six week cycles? Ha. How nice it would be to work at a company that has a product, customers, and isn’t fucking insane. Remember, friends don’t let friends work for VC funded startups.
> We don’t count hours or question how individual days are spent. We don’t have daily meetings. We don’t rethink our roadmap every two weeks.
I think I've wasted the last 10 years of my life. Let's see 20 minute standup meeting every work day for the last 9 years. That's 20 * 5 * 48 * 9 / 60 = 720 hours of my life wasted in standup meetings.
Another turd in the tower of shit that is JavaScript.
HTML works out-of-the-box, offline, and with any editor. It's deployed easily, works with Git, and is practically free.
