simonista··on Antimatter caught streaming from thunderstorms on Earth
That title makes it sound like the antimatter was on the run, avoiding the law or something.

Seriously though, I've always loved that there is a lot we still don't know about thunderstorms and lightening.

simonista··on Building a Web Application that makes $500 a Month – Part II
I'm curious which paypal product you use, and how it's working out for you?
simonista··on Solarized - Color scheme for vim, mutt, terminal emulators
I like mustang as well, but I keep coming back to desert: http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=105
simonista··on iOS Libraries
Funny, I was just wondering this morning if there's code somewhere to do the "pull to refresh" action on tables that everyone seems to be adding recently. Found a good round up here: http://iosdevgoodies.joostschuur.com/pull-and-release-refres.... On further inspection the three20 version uses the EGO version.
simonista··on The State of Version Control: an Infographic
I think you misread. It's 63% of people not using code review professionally.
simonista··on Apple to Unveil IPad 2 on March 2 in San Francisco
I held out and I'm hoping to catch a cheap first-gen after the second comes out.
simonista··on Show HN: My first coding project ever (unnamed)
Great job, I think it looks really good as an MVP. Keep tweaking things, and keep learning!
simonista··on Convore (YC W11) Wants To Be The Easiest Group Communication App Yet
Looks very cool. Looks like there's a Hacker News group, for those that are interested: https://convore.com/hacker-news/
simonista··on Reddit (YC S05): 1 billion monthly pageviews
Grammatically it's just fine, although I might have used "had received" or something instead to make quick reading a little easier.
simonista··on A Deepness In The Sky
Daniel, you've really fleshed out the site since last time I looked at it -- I think when you first posted it here. It's looking really good. Any update as to how the project as a whole is going for you?
simonista··on 37signals Basecamp Mobile HTML5 app for WebKit browsers
Thanks. Any downside?
simonista··on 37signals Basecamp Mobile HTML5 app for WebKit browsers
Could someone explain why something like eco makes sense in this context instead of just using rails (ERB) templates. Presumably you have to query the rails backend at some point to get the data. Are the templates in coffeescript for cache-ability? Thanks!
simonista··on Tutorspree (YC W11) Is An Airbnb For Tutoring
Very cool. I'm torn on the strict requirements to be listed as a tutor. On the one hand I totally understand the need to filter for quality, and if you still have enough tutors, you've probably set the bar at the right place. On the other hand I am a graduate student and a Teaching Assistant and enjoy helping people learn, although it's not something I'm pursuing professionally.

Small bug: the last two questions in the FAQ under the For Parents And Students section are duplicates.

simonista··on Ask HN: Review RentPost.com
"sick" can be slang for great or cool. see http://onlineslangdictionary.com/definition+of/sick
simonista··on Mythbusting: Why Firefox 4 won’t score 100 on Acid3
Good information to know. Are there more current tests that are pushing the current generation browsers to implement new functionality?

Also, that site is beautiful.

simonista··on Grooveshark's new Javascript/HTML interface
Really weird scrolling on Safari 5.0.3 on snow leopard. The background flickers through the search results. Otherwise really cool.
simonista··on BankSimple Launches Preview Site
Good work guys. A few text/spelling errors you might want to fix. On the careers page after clicking for more detail in the "smart and talented?" section, there are about 5 places where two words are getting smushed together. Maybe a line break problem or something. And then in the thank you email after signing up, the first line, "thank you requesting ..." should be "thank you for requesting ..."
simonista··on Dropbox (YC S07): Simple Tasks for Extra Space (768MB total)
Maybe it was just me, but I totally didn't "get it" at first that these were sort of steps that build on each other and should be done in order.

So it seemed really strange to me that I had to connect my twitter account before I could follow @dropbox, and the error message you get when you click on the follow one before the auth one is not very descriptive.

Otherwise, really cool offer, thanks guys.

Here's the article: http://www.slate.com/id/2152255/

Fun stuff. Made me smile.

simonista··on First Impressions of Python from a Java Developer
util.Scanner

I recently learned about them and they simplify a surprising number of simple parsing tasks.

simonista··on Learn Python The Hard Way Now For Sale
Didn't see the submission, and haven't heard much about PD but I'll check it out. Thanks for the link!
simonista··on Learn Python The Hard Way Now For Sale
Dang, I'd love R, C, or ChucK. That is a tough choice.
simonista··on Maintain your resume in Markdown and on GitHub Pages
If you like parentheses, Scribble[1], a tool by the racket guys, does what you're asking for. I haven't used it extensively but the few times I've tried it, it has worked well. Here's an example scribble file[2].

simonista··on Maintain your resume in Markdown and on GitHub Pages
Just a heads up, there's a typo. Under "Operating Systems", distrobutions -> distributions.
simonista··on How To Use SSL To Secure Your Rails App Against e.g. FireSheep
I agree, and I'm not advocating that everyone should always have a date on every piece of content they produce. Rather, one should think rationally about whether or not a specific piece of content will age well or not, and date it appropriately. In my opinion code tutorials and how-to's do not age well.
simonista··on Todos: a Backbone.js example Single-Page-App (with LocalStorage)
It looks very nice. One small UI request, you should only be able to edit one existing item at a time, so if you are currently editing one item and you double click another item, the first should be committed.
simonista··on How To Use SSL To Secure Your Rails App Against e.g. FireSheep
At least you have a date on your article. Half the articles I find have no date, and so then you're left wondering, 'exactly how out-of-date is the information I just found?'
simonista··on Ask HN: What are you working on right now?
Wow, that sounds like a bummer. I'm really sorry to hear that. May the future hold better luck for you.
simonista··on How to be a freelance web developer, part 2
I'm curious which sections of craigslist you look through. Web / Info design? Software / qa / db? Internet engineers?
simonista··on Review my weekend HTML5 project: DropMocks
Transitions are pretty jerky for me, but really great idea. Thanks for open sourcing the code, I'm excited to see where this goes!
