sim_card_map··on System76 – Pangolin
No they are not.

I work with text, and the difference is night and day.

sim_card_map··on System76 – Pangolin
I get ~10 hours on my retina macbook

16 hours on the new m1 macbook.

It's 2021 ffs...

Can we get a high res display 9 years after apple's first retina macbook?

I still can't believe someone came up with this syntax and thought it was a good idea.

Interesting!

Isn't original TP7 source code available?

sim_card_map··on Performance Matters (2019)
Or because we created languages like Python that are 10x slower than compiled languages and write code bases with millions of lines of code in them.

This looks very interesting and clean. Well done!
sim_card_map··on Run Homebrew Natively on Apple Silicon Arm M1
Yeah it's nice when it's an apt install away.

Not so nice on Windows or macOS.

While Go supports it all out of the box.

sim_card_map··on Run Homebrew Natively on Apple Silicon Arm M1
But it only uses musl for cross compilation, no?

I don't think it uses glibc to compile Linux binaries on macOS or macOS libc to compile macOS binaries on Linux.

sim_card_map··on Run Homebrew Natively on Apple Silicon Arm M1
https://nim-lang.org/docs/nimc.html#cross-compilation

Nim doesn't seem to have excellent cross compiling support out of the box. It simply relies on cross platform toolchains that you have to set up.

Good luck setting up cross platform GCC.

Zig uses musl AFAIK? That can often be problematic.

sim_card_map··on A new and improved Twitter API
No word on the most important thing: the limits.

Current limits that keep becoming stricter and stricter make the API unusable.

Since 2015, no issues. You can choose not to believe me.

Ok, 2 web servers, 2 db servers back in 2013, one of the most visited sites out there.

You get a system that you can run anything on.
sim_card_map··on How to burn the most money with a single click in Azure
It's all written in Go + Postgres. Nothing else. Not sure what TPS is.

No problem with scaling.

Stack Overflow runs on a single machine. Use a fast compiled language and a simple stack. No need in $6k/mo AWS bills which are the fashion these days.

sim_card_map··on How to burn the most money with a single click in Azure
We are using two $3.5 AWS lightsail instances to handle hundreds of thousands of customers :)

No hidden or unexpected costs.

sim_card_map··on Servo, the Parallel Browser Engine Project
I've been following the development of Servo for several years. Unfortunately it's still is at a very early stage. Some of the most basic sites are rendered incorrectly, not rendered at all, or result in freezes and crashes.

Shows how bloated modern web is and how hard it is to write a browser engine. Really sad state of affairs.

sim_card_map··on Why I Don't Like Golang (2016)
Interesting. Do you have links? Or maybe a short summary why this is bad?
sim_card_map··on Green threads explained in 200 lines of Rust
Much easier to build, for me at least.

I tried installing Rust and building the example, but then it complained about nightly features, and I didn't have time to figure that out.

C/C++ are mainstream languages, and building is as simple as g++ test.cpp.
