silvio··on An idea for teaching everyone programming using twitter.
That is a really sweet idea. I envision a sort of LOGO style language with the output being visual. There's a Javascript based LOGO interpreter at http://www.calormen.com/Logo/ which could come handy. It would be quite amusing to see people tweeting LOGO sentences.
silvio··on Wind turbines scalability limited by roads and underpasses
I think that the logistics involved with the deployment of wind turbines is really a limiting factor. As such, this is an excellent opportunity for hackers to work on. The question is, given the constraints that current wind power generation faces, what could we do to overcome them?
silvio··on Ask HN: What was the latest book you read?
I read Multireal, which is the follow up to Infoquake. They deal with a startup producing software that runs inside people, executed by tiny nanobots. The books explore startup culture.
silvio··on Crowdsourcing Bruteforcing: Help me win the EngineYard challenge
Would you be willing to write up the stats of your experiment once the challenge is over? I'd be really interested to know how much compute power you were able to harvest and what was the rate of compute acquisition.

Terrific idea and implementation. I have 10 tabs on Chrome. Good luck.

silvio··on Burnout
Many times, the reason some people put so many hours at the office is because they feel guilty about going home while the rest stick behind. Sometimes, the people who stay behind don't really get to accomplish much, but in terms of social dynamics, the bunch who "hang out" at the office get the political spoils. Group leaders need to ensure that reward is given based on delivery, as opposed to face time in the office.
silvio··on Work vs Life
Another source for a good explanation, even if long and sometimes self righteous, is "Fooled By Randomness" by Nicholas Nassim Taleb. He's the author of another well known book called "The Black Swan"
silvio··on Work vs Life
Your argument is a good example of survival bias. How many people pursue their passion and let everything else in life behind, just to find themselves alone and unsuccessful at the end of their lives. Enjoy the opportunity, see where it goes, and stop looking for excuses to avoid intimacy with other people.
