Another good reason why you should always use "example.com".

For me it shows that one of my friends +1'd it. I'm pretty sure he +1'd the real Stack Overflow though.
signed0··on The Lightning Digital AV Adapter Surprise
But if they cared about cutting costs they wouldn't have invented their own cable to begin with. When has Apple ever worried about making people pay for things they don't use?

I'm disappointed because Lightening was billed as the next innovation in design, but if the picture quality is worse then what's the point?

signed0··on The Lightning Digital AV Adapter Surprise
So instead of just going with USB3 like other phone manufacturers and having native HDMI they created their own interface that results in an a picture display with noticeable artifacts.

Mountain Lion + Chrome on a retina MBP.

On FireFox the text is also cut off and the blue bars do not show up: http://imgur.com/CfHWnzJ

Update: Upgrading from Firefox 17 to 19 fixed the issue with the blue bars.

When this first came up I was trying to remember the last time I visited a blog that is hosted on Posterus, then I discovered that Ycombinator's blog[1] is still on Posterus, as is AirBnb's[2].

signed0··on Why was my email leaked?
A better option might be integrating it into LastPass or 1Password. They already generate a random password for you, why not an email address as well?
signed0··on Why was my email leaked?
That sounds like a fun idea for an app/service. You provide it with your base email address or custom domain and it generates a couple random words and keeps track of what service you used it to sign up for.
signed0··on Name.com hijacks non-existent subdomains and redirects to their servers
Amusingly mydomain.com is a domain registrar. I wonder how many people stumble upon it by accident.
signed0··on Outbox Makes Your Snail Mail Digital, Launches in SF
It seems like a lot of work for them to swing by your physical address multiple times a week.

The other services that do this allow you to have mail delivered to a mailbox that the company controls and then mail that you actually want can be forward to your home mailbox.

signed0··on Code.org – Dedicated to growing computer programming education
I like this because instead of saying "everyone must code" it says "everyone should have the opportunity to learn to code".

There are always going to be those that are not interested in coding. Forcing anyone to learn something they aren't interested in is just a waste of everyone's time.

If you give kids the resources they need to get started and a good environment to experiment in they will take care of the rest.

That makes me want to use Skype (owned by Microsoft) even less now.
signed0··on Aaron Swartz Was Targeted by Feds Over His Activism
Aaron wasn't most people though, and it's not as if his profession was one that would be ruined by a criminal record.
signed0··on Meldium (YC W13) Controls Your Team’s Shared App Passwords For You
I'm going to take that as a yes. Given all the recent hackings of Google, Apple and Zendesk, I don't think I would feel comfortable storing all my passwords unencrypted with anyone.
signed0··on Meldium (YC W13) Controls Your Team’s Shared App Passwords For You
Doesn't this mean that if you are compromised so are all your users?

They could be filling in the passwords with a random string and then using the browser extension to replace it when the form is submitted.

You might be able to view the password using something like https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/tamper-data/ provided that runs after their extension.

I almost thought this was related to medium.com.

I wish they would have compared this to other existing products such as LastPass instead of comparing it to an excel spreadsheet.

signed0··on As of today, App.net is a freemium service
I also said use. The primary thing I dislike about Twitter is that they now limit apps to 100K tokens. This past weekend Falcon Pro, the Twitter client I use, reached the limit and is now unable to offer it to additional users.

This also impacts me as a user because the official Twitter apps have special privileges that third party apps do not. I believe this is why third party apps do not support push notifications.

signed0··on As of today, App.net is a freemium service
> What can I do on app.net that I cant do on twitter? What part of the experience do they beat Twitter on?

Build or use your own app without worrying about hitting a token/user limit.

signed0··on Show HN: My weekend project - inspirational quotes
Are the listed quotes an example of what the user should expect to see if they sign up for the mailing list, or are they today's quotes?

If it is a "quote a day" service I would expect to see just one quote.

signed0··on App Developer Makes Craigslist Mobile, the Legal Way
It's too bad that you had to resort to scraping. It's a shame that Craigslist hasn't built their own API for those who pay for a license.

Are you doing the scraping server side or client side (inside the app)?
