sidi··on Show HN: Appbase – Data synchronization library for writing 100% clientside apps
We have a tutorial for building a chat app in Javascript here - http://appbase.io/tutorial.html.

We will be adding more dynamic tutorials in the future!

sidi··on Nexus 5
It's not so straightforward if Google thinks you are not in the US.
sidi··on Nexus 5
I am currently on this plan (on a Nexus 4), and it works quite well for me. There's also a 100 minutes talk time limit on the plan, with 10C per minute for extra talk time.
sidi··on Poll: Which platforms do you develop for?
The changes required to adapt to these stores (I can speak for Chromestore) are minimal, i.e. one needs to write a manifest file. It's like adding a channel to improve the app's discovery. It certainly seems to provide a lot of traffic if your app falls in the top of popular category.
sidi··on Poll: Which platforms do you develop for?
Results of this poll as a bar chart in real-time(almost): http://hnlike.com/hncharts/chart/?id=6603807
sidi··on Poll: Which platforms do you develop for?
The download numbers for the popular apps aren't bad imo - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/popular. Still your hypothesis is an interesting one. Any possible reasons why this might be the case?
sidi··on Poll: Which platforms do you develop for?
Only a minority (< 10%) of web developers develop for Chrome Store/Firefox Marketplace. Why would that be? As far as I can think, the advantages of putting on these stores are clear and there isn't much friction to adapt the app for them. Am I missing something?
sidi··on Poll: Which platforms do you develop for?
Let me know if you would like to add a choice.

Edit: Added Embedded/RTOS.

sidi··on Poll: Where are you currently living?
I am curious, what were the barriers (apart from financial) like when you moved to San Francisco? This is assuming you moved your startup over to SF. I ask this since I am starting up in India, and increasingly thinking to relocate to Silicon Valley.
sidi··on Wikileaks internal memo on "The Fifth Estate"
Although it contains real names and real places, the film will justify itself as fictional making it harder to target for defamation / libel / slander.

Edit: Another way the film can get off the hook is by claiming the information depicted is based on the sources (books) it uses for forming the script. I can only speculate, but what matters is shaping the public opinion and they are doing it by leaking the script and expressing their opposition to it.

Another guess is they need definitive evidence before sueing the film/makers. To quote from their memo: "Although the film has premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and numerous other media organizations have been shown review copies, the studio continues to refuse to show the film to WikiLeaks staff."

sidi··on Wikileaks internal memo on "The Fifth Estate"
I found the memo quite insightful as it goes into specific details on why and how the movie depiction differs from their perspective. Some quotes from the memo:

"THE FIFTH ESTATE falsely implies that WikiLeaks harmed 2,000 US government informants. ... US Brig. Gen. Robert Carr – who was tasked to investigate this matter by the Pentagon – in fact stated under oath when examined by the defense counsel that there was no harm whatsoever."

"Although THE FIFTH ESTATE purports to be about Julian Assange and WikiLeaks, the film was made without the involvement of WikiLeaks or any of its staff, including Julian Assange. ... The multi-million dollar production, produced by Dreamworks and distributed by Disney, has not financially contributed to WikiLeaks or any of its defence funds."

sidi··on Ask HN: How to network at Startup School?
That's awesome. Is it the HN group http://letslunch.com/hackernews?
sidi··on My two-week review of Google Glass: it all depends on the price
With Dropbox, you are free to pick the editor. Not so with Drive. The 'Docs +' in fact adds a constraint.
sidi··on Crowd-Sourced Flight Search
Since you are asking for fees when a user creates a contest, you should provide case-studies of savings on similar flight searches in the past (also include cost-benefits over other flight search engines). May be, even allow the user to extend the contest duration (with some constraints). Doing this should give a better assurance to the user.

I believe your service has the potential to do well in this market, particularly considering there are many variables involved in flight searches.

sidi··on Ask PG: 2012 Startup ideas you'd like to fund?
most of the ideas that you start with actually change later. So, not a good idea to fit problems to an idea, they would almost never perfectly match.
