Tedious is the perfect word for it.
- their software stack was relatively simple and easy to maintain
- their moderators were volunteers who worked for free & loved their job (as opposed to FB who are hiring them for 30/hour)
- their expenditures were very low for a company of that scale.
- third-party developers built great apps for free and boosted the site, and this was when Reddit team didn't have the resources to build a proper app of their own (they ended up acquiring Alien Blue, one of the favorite apps of that time and adopted it as their mobile client)
They had a huge presence for minimal expenditure, and they let it all go with more & more short-sighted decisions. Quite sad to see something just decay like this.
Using Canva for a design assignment is obviously a mis-step by the student, not a flaw of the tool itself
For short-term & quick usage, canva is a perfectly fine tool for editing/formatting stuff
I definitely would’ve been a different person today if I hadn’t found reddit, sad to see it is a shallower former-shell of what it was
My circle & I have stopped reddit on phone almost completely.
So many active posters have left reddit, that it is a shell of what it previously was. Some of my favorite subreddits have become inactive and shallower, to the point that admins are actively boosting up alternate subreddits
From what I can gather, the large majority of the remaining active users in the site are people who use reddit as alternative to 9Gag & Porn sites - prolly hyperbole, but that is what the new r/all felt like
Ctrl+8 will paste in the latest item on my clipboard, and honestly it has been so helpful that I'm quite elated.
I recommend others running a userscript for themselves, this extension is awesome, but it's something that can be broken again and again. not really a permanent solution
