There has to be more to it then just the JSTOR case.
Aaron Swartz was an inspiration. To know that a person you looked up to, someone from whom you learned so much through his writings and his projects, ended up finishing his life like that...
Speechless!
"It’s a junior engineer mistake to toss insults about a piece of complex technology in 140 characters."
Does everyone agree with that? I have seen many senior engineers, specially in open source world, who aren't afraid to use the 'F word' publicly to insult a technology, or even an organisation (Linus vs. Nvidia?).
Does an engineer really have to be super formal in how he talks online? Isn't it fun to be a bit more open at times than what 'maturity' requires?
However, while my bot was compiling, I moved away from the page. Later on trying to resubmit, I kept on getting errors, until I changed the name of my bot submission.
More helpful error messages would greatly improve the whole process. :)
What happened to catching an old buddy after ages, in real life, and getting to hear each others story over a cup of coffee or dinner table. I would always prefer that to getting to know every other detail about my friends living far away, throwing every little detail of their life at me, every 10 minutes.
Let the holy war begin.
One: Be self-deprecating!? Show you are weak and clueless? In short, a false image?
Two: Be brilliant, and prove you were being a dick with the first step.
Giving a false image, be it over valuing yourself or the opposite, knowingly, belong to the same category in my belief. It is the silent, humble, but brilliant opponent/partner that has my highest regards.
For those of us for whom Java never was "alive" (not choosing to program in it), is it safe to ignore this new language? I would be interested in it more if they wouldn't pitch it as Java Killer.
This is a text book usage of social engineer. Putting in divorced parents, single child getting all the attention from the engineer dad making the kid an above average amongst his/her peers, and then putting in a girl, so to make you focus less on the flaws in the story and drool over the hot-geek image more... evergreen combination.
I would doubt though that Forbes came up with this on their own. Rather, it could very much be someone from anon, just having little more fun.
