Not a single comment in here connecting the fake bullshit detection technology of the previous generation to the present bullshit generation technology (“AI”)? I’m disappointed, y’all.
Three years? I have almost _thirty_. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen it this bad and I’ve seen it pretty bad. The dot-com bust was brutal. Skilling up is never a bad idea, but that’s not the primary constraint right now. The primary constraint is more jobs are being shed than positions are hiring.
You’re (probably) not going to build a medium complexity web app in less than 2 months as a complete beginner. We’d need to know a lot more about what kind of app to recommend a framework. We’d need to know a lot more about your overall goals to give meaningful advice. For example, is the goal really to build an app in two months, or is the goal to skill up and learn something? Sincerely, a web dev veteran with 30 years experience and the hair loss to prove it
Yeah, they were in the editor and buggy as hell and you ran an increasing risk of crashing the tool the more of them you used. Also IIRC, they were indexed by letter of the alphabet and everything became impossible > 26.
I only got a proof-of-concept working, but I made a board that would allow payment for arcade games and pinball machines over wi-fi without disabling the coin slot. Free-play can be enabled by sensing the P1 and P2 start buttons. Security was an interesting puzzle because the 8266 ran out of memory when trying to host an SSL stack, so I went with HMAC signed messages.
I remember sitting on the front row of a conference where Yugo was presenting and watching all the other Flash experts lose their minds as he ran through his demos.
I did telephone tech support for Thinkpads in the mid 90s. It was a bit of a rare treat to actually take a call for the 701c because they were generally pretty solid. “Hello and thank you for calling the IBM PC call center. My name is ___, may I get your name and telephone number please?” … 10 hours a day, 4 days per week.
needing to move economics’ goalposts to the extent Marx is now considered irrelevant to the field of economics only goes to show how influential he’s been. The current practitioners disagree with him? Sure, fine, but to say he’s irrelevant is absurd. He’s easily one of the most influential thinkers in the space.
I excitedly told my art teacher at school about this show after having discovered it over summer vacation and she was not amused to be outdone by some gimmicky TV production. shrug
I’ve been a UX engineer in the “infinite canvas” space for the last five years. Just getting the organization aligned around something that behaves Figma-like is a huge undertaking, and as some of the comments point out, Figma isn’t really a great experience even once you’ve got the bugs ironed out. I’ve got some ideas about how to improve on this, but they’ll probably have to wait until my current employer goes under. Shouldn’t be too much longer now
