shove··on Laid off for the first time in my career, and twice in one year
This thread has a lot of interesting anecdata so I’ll add mine.

Over 25 years experience in frontend web, searching since July, and the water is as ice cold as I’ve ever felt it. Low response rates, low interview rates, zero offers. Wondering if the backend grass is slightly greener at the moment or that’s just my perception from the other side of the fence.

Hi, I’m this unicorn, and I’m actively seeking a new role.

Nobody gave a shout out to Robot Odyssey yet?
shove··on Life is not a story
The map is not the territory. Est (and its offspring Landmark) talked about this a lot: the distinction between the things that happened and the story we tell ourselves about the things that happened. What would happen if we told ourselves a different story? What are we getting from the current story that keeps us hanging on to it? Etc
shove··on GSAP has been acquired by Webflow
Robert was not only incredibly generous and talented, but he was always so friendly and humble. Fond memories of that period of time.
shove··on GSAP has been acquired by Webflow
This crew has worked so hard for so long. I hope they got a killer payday.
shove··on I don't want your AI
My what an uncharacteristicly quiet comments section.
shove··on Dismantling Google is a terrible idea
As an extreme leftist, I find this notion as offensive as I do absurd.

shove··on Steve Ballmer: facts on the US federal budget [video]
It was a lot more objective than I anticipated, but if you know how to look at such things, the propaganda is definitely in there.

Anyone who has ever talked to a cop for more than a few minutes learns really quick they have a terrible grasp of the law.
shove··on Ask HN: What are you working on (August 2024)?
I’ve been slowly adding puzzles to a little game I made. Shout-out to a few HN commentators who gave early and helpful feedback. https://shovemedia.com/letters

still needs a name :/

I don’t recall being able to construct XML inline like this unless maybe that was a Flex server thing?
shove··on Of mice and men and Magdalen: C. S. Lewis’s Oxford
Interesting. I thought “Till We Have Faces” was the main work that dealt with losing his wife.
shove··on Poetry was an official Olympic event
Man, I really miss a good poetry slam. The judges usually suck though ;)
shove··on Ask HN: Front-end bait and switch?
Funny enough, one of my early startup experiences absolutely included, “here’s your (unassembled) chair and an Allen wrench.”
shove··on The Private Life: On James Baldwin
Positive comments on James Baldwin on the Orange Site? I must be having a stroke. ;)
shove··on Ask HN: Front-end bait and switch?
By Occam’s Razor: the people in charge of the day-to-day running of things at most companies are simply not very bright. I’ll get downvoted for this, because “attitude problem” or whatever, but I’ve been around 30 years y’all. There aren’t many explanations that fit the data.
shove··on How I Program in 2024
I’m really curious whether my agree:disagree ratio will be higher in the article or in the comments.

shove··on Show HN: Three.js mirror cube that stays in sync
I have one of these :)
shove··on Show HN: My New Puzzle Game
New puzzle just dropped, easier than the first
shove··on Show HN: My New Puzzle Game
So far the feedback has been pretty unanimous that this puzzle is too hard. I don’t disagree, however (spoiler alert) it can be solved in 4 moves. The next puzzle (which I’m hoping to release today or tomorrow) will err on the side of being “too easy”.
shove··on Show HN: Haystack – an IDE for exploring and editing code on an infinite canvas
I spent the last five+ years full-time deep diving the infinite canvas UX problem space if you happen to be hiring ;)
shove··on Will Figma become an awkward middle ground?
Figma passed on my resume, so I’m not particularly incentivized to leverage my (very deep, thank you) engineering / design / UX expertise and offer my product guidance for free. They have a ton of momentum, so there’s a lot of room to make mistakes before it shows up as more than a blip in the quarterly numbers. They’ll probably be fine without me, but seems like an unnecessary risk. ;)
