Most manufacturing businesses owned by the Chinese middle class are competing against other undeveloped Asian economies that have lower wages than China. Most of these manufacturers are against wage hikes because it runs them out of business. This is a very hot political issue in China as the Government has said in the current 5 year plan that it will be moving parts of the country away from cheap labour manufacturing. The Government's plan is to ban migration of labour to developed cities like Shenzhen and Wenzhou.
I wish some of this context was explained in the show.
Competitive providers exist in the US. I just don't think anyone is as advance as OVH in terms of price efficiency so I'm no expert on them.
OVH is building one of the most advance networks with over 1tbps. Their 10gbps servers can actually push 10gbps which just gets me really excited.
Also, in 1985 he received blackmail for one million dollars or 4 bombs. It's right at the end.
Nothing post 2000.
I guess when Google was shopping for mobile OS they were also looking for a talent grab. With Inferno by 2005 most had already left.
At $25 Raspberry Pi is a joke. If it actually sees a decent amount of sales, you will be sure to see actual companies that specialise in this field competing at lower prices and better performance. Raspberry Pi has realised something that everyone in the industry knows: computing is cheap. It will not take long for the competition to crush Raspberry Pi if there is a large enough market for what they are doing. As for now they are chasing after the tablet market and IMHO are going to do well.
Guess some of the Chinese iPhone copycats using Android are following this model to some extent.
Google has a lot of connectivity issues to China. Having the link be redirected makes using Google a lot more unbearable as the connection hangs like 50% of the time.
I'm a localphone customer here as I am not in the UK. :/
All this progress will lead to is Chinese factories having smaller workforces. I visited a sock factory with a work force of a few thousand people producing few million socks per day. When you get to such scales your biggest cost is management oversight, which is why manufacturing is going to stay in large factories.
Any rulers out there want a calendar named after them?
I believe most Ayis get 1 day off per month. Factory workers 1 day off per 10 days. Office workers 1 day off per week.
Actually, with the bigger factories their workers are getting 1 day off per week (e.g. established textile factories, foxconn, etc.).
There are many people who don't care what time it is in another country (domestic jobs and the unemployed). There is no real incentive to have everyone relearn what time they get up and go to sleep.
These type of reforms were quiet popular in the beginning of the 20th century. E.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World_Calendar
Had this proposal been suggested a century ago. I would have a good feeling it would have been made a reality since it doesn't interfere with a 7 day work weak.
Today with computers, it isn't really necessary. Anyone is able to check when July 1st will be in 2500 without calculating. So it is not likely to gain to much interest except in by theorists.
This proposal introduces an artificial calendar that is neither solar or lunar but realigns every few years. It is quiet a novel idea.
The Jews did similar engineering in their calendar system. The rabbis did not want some holidays to fall out on certain days of the week because of varied reasons. So they engineered rules for the leap years and new months to happen in a pattern to prevent this.
The Jewish calendar is lunar but realigns itself with the solar calendar. It need to be certain Jewish holidays always accure in the same season.
Really would have preferred not to use them but I did end up using their $1.18 coupon. So lets say I ended up abusing them.
