Unfortunately, they own so many smaller publishers, that it's very hard to boycott all of their subsidiaries effectively and without harming the small fish.
But I do share your sentiment; I haven't loaned even one single book from IA emergency library and I still stand with them in support against opportunistic greed of these publishers in this case.
> Name one famous historical figure who had power of some sort who didn't do anything "jerk-like".
Since the list are of kings, I namedrop Marcus Aurelius.
Add power and stress to unchecked emotional and psychological deficiencies of the susceptible person of power strong enough to derail their sense of ethics and morality and one comes face to face with a war criminal, a psychopath dictator, or a jerky maverick CEO.
Increase or decrease elements to get Caligula or Steve Jobs.
For the lack of a better word, information (and software) is culture while matter and energy (carbon on paper, photons) are nature.
I'm sorry that people are losing jobs over such closure, but usually the writing is on the wall.

To me it is a light-hearted, almost dionysian, meditation on memory, friendship, isolation, loss, and time.

– having a "how to" page and actual focus page, would allow removing distraction of instruction texts
– although it's tricky to disable notifications on the browser and the OS, it'd be a nice feature
– for too granular a session length dropdown, one could use a text field with suggested time.
– adding basic calculations (e.g. 2+8) for which the user should enter the results, is also an option
– better typography: e.g. numbers appearing are too small
– check out https://www.psytoolkit.org/ for ideas and inspirations.
Edit: format, typo.
- moral relativism and ethical subjectivism: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral_relativism - In-group vs. out-group
But if a person has their ego and individualism in check and trust their instinct to be in benefit of their larger group and their goal, then sure it is justified to proceed now and ask for forgiveness later.

> We are here to hold Facebook accountable no matter who’s using it, and to push it and other tech companies to do better for users.
In other words, regardless of whether something is necessary or not, if users are using it, EFF would be watching.
And I don't even think Facebook is "necessary" as assumed. Hence, I find it irrelevant to go meta and discuss my assumed understanding or consideration, or lack thereof, of others feeling.
I also think that there is not much honesty in your question, by the way.
Read the EFF post again.
This style of thinking sometimes has its benefits, like gathering together a community to build a mechanical clock, create a manual for restarting a civilization[1], or write a non-fiction book about "earth without people"[2].
It's just an interesting intellectual, cultural endeavor.
