very well said.
shaydoc··on Ask HN: JavaScript Dev Tools
As far as IDE's I have found JSLint in jsfiddle.net (http://jsfiddle.net/shaydoc/geQvz/) handy, else I've just got reacquainted with the javascript way and been developing in notepad. Google Chrome has fantastic developer tools as already mentioned! debugging is a sinch and console.log is brilliant!

Framework wise, I am loving http://Knockoutjs.com, its an MVVM design style, similar to the pattern frequently used for Silverlight development, and its got great tutorial and support on the site. I particularly like the Knockout mapping plugin as it will automatically map JSON into a ViewModel, sweet!

Checkout the author Steve Sanderson's blog also, well worth reading : http://blog.stevensanderson.com/

I have been getting familiar with http://amplifyjs.com which simplifies ajax request management and client side storage, as well as a publish/subscribe messaging.

Also recently stumbled upon http://xuijs.com/ which I intend to get more familiar with!

Good luck with your ventures in javascript!

what bank do you work for, looney tunes acme bank ? Did your "senior programmer" dude never hear of salt and SHA1-Hash, fairly trivial to do ?
shaydoc··on I don't program in my spare time. Does that make me a bad developer?
I find that the less time you spend programming, more time solutioning the better developer you become. reading and learning how other folk are solutioning is where its at for me. anyone can program, not everyone can design a good solution for a problem.

If you enjoy programming as a job, then in your spare time you allow for tech, take the time to read a couple of pages here and there. If you don't read or get exposed to other talented programmers/architects then yeah, you are destined to be a bad developer!

shaydoc··on ORM is an anti-pattern
ORM's tend to suck, easy way out. delegating control to a custom ORM says to me, OK give me performance issues. Design your Domain model, keep it simple at the DAL and use Stored Procedures, easy life, ultimate flexibility.
shaydoc··on How Hackers Stole 200,000 Citi Accounts Just By Changing Numbers In The URL
Its a basic error. Tech Architect should be seeing this in milliseconds. Its a total design flaw. Should not be going straight to SQL with just paramters in a querystring, there should at least be authenticated user account verification checking.

Also doesn't say much for the company doing security review, its a basic check. Furthermore to not have a user/onwer id to join on there (no doubt sql back end) is shameful. I mean I can see it now :

select x from accounttable where accountnumber = @val

how about simply :

select x from accounttable where accountnumber = @accno and ownerid = @ownerid
