sharifhsn··on New research finds that ivermectin could help control malaria transmission
When you talk about politicians… are you including Donald Trump in that, who said that if you stop testing, we would actually have very few cases?

Donald Trump, who talked about injecting bleach and sunlight into people to treat COVID, doing real time word association instead of educating the public during a pandemic?

Donald Trump, who promoted hydroxycholoroquine as the miracle cure for COVID despite no evidence that it was?

Donald Trump, who had his son-in-law run a team of unqualified volunteers for a “supply chain task force” during a pandemic, who announced that the federal stockpile of medical supplies (previously understood to be available for the states) was only to be used by the federal government?

The pandemic was ended by the vaccine. Donald Trump could take credit for that, but he won’t because his base of supporters is knee-deep in conspiracy theories about it. How sad.

Hey, my university is setting up a JupyterHub deployment right now, and my coworker is in charge of it. Do you mind elaborating more on how you went about it, best practices, etc.?

“Normal” sweeteners are also chemicals.
sharifhsn··on Recovering from AI Addiction
Yes, but trauma is a useful framework to help an individual recover from addiction. While some individuals will struggle more than others, everyone has a path to avoiding addiction, and one of the best ways to do this is to build an environment for people that compensates for trauma. It’s much easier to confront things that were done to you, than to mistakes that you yourself committed.

It’s about resilience. LLMs are prone to hallucinations. Although they can be very intelligent, they don’t have 100% correct output unaided. The protocol helps increase the resilience of the output so that there’s more of a guarantee that the LLM will stay within the lines you’ve drawn around it.

sharifhsn··on Zed Beta – And it's fast (and I don't care)
This post makes the assumption that capability necessarily sacrifices performance. That's not necessarily true. The most powerful ability of Visual Studio Code, and the reason that it's so massively popular, is its large and high-quality selection of plugins, along with the backing of Microsoft and the clean integration with GitHub.

There's no reason to believe that Zed wouldn't be able to have a marketplace for extensions in the same way as Visual Studio Code, and it wouldn't have the high RAM usage and latency associated with Visual Studio Code.

Additionally, Zed will have additional capabilities that are not present in other editors. Most notable is the Google Docs-esque collaboration feature, which will probably be the largest part of its marketing. However, because these capabilities are not available in the open beta, people are only talking about what has been revealed so far, which is mostly in the low-latency performance of the editor.
