shams93··on Ask HN: How do you compete when you have pain or other health problems?
If developers were unionized this wouldn't be an issue, but with the rate of outsourcing and Ai sourcing going on, human workers have never been under this level of pressure before in any post historic era.
shams93··on Ask HN: How to not get steamrolled by OpenAI?
Here's another example, start an AI generated music company but rather than training your model on all the music on youtube you hire local musicians to develop fully legally transparent and royalty free models used to run a sass for content producers.
shams93··on Ask HN: How to not get steamrolled by OpenAI?
Well the thing is you can do some interesting tricks they haven't thought of, one trick I am doing with these tiny language models is to train them on a handful of authors in one genre rather than training on every story ever written, a distinct style emerges. Nowadays you have these mini pc's with Rocm support (under linux) so its becoming cheap to build your own models.
shams93··on Ask HN: How many of you are fighting with Win11
I find it's much easier and cleaner to Uninstall on windows 11 compared to messy macos.
shams93··on Managers on magic mushrooms: «Psychedelic leadership» is trending
I don't mind mangers on shrooms, but managers on meth thats hell on earth lol
shams93··on God Originally Had a Wife
Unfortunately now they found God making disgusting comments on an incel forum.
shams93··on It's Hard to Get Hired Despite Glowing Jobs Reports
There are plenty of jobs with part time minimum wages that stay open forever because of the cost of gas and cars and even the cost of a metro pass its not possible to even break even you would be paying to work. Not even refugees can afford to work these jobs. "Bidenomics" is so horrifying that basically nobody can afford to live anymore who is under the age of 70.
shams93··on Recruiting and retention from analyzing 150M+ job change events
Biden is simplifying things though by letting the majority of US jobs go, whether its Ai or outsourcing, you look at what is available now its part time, minimum wage work so would not be surprised to see these numbers change. This reflects how big the tech employment got, the majority of these startups themselves did not last more than 3 years so I think this really distorts the view, and the loss is nothing like 100 billion because these companies are all gone, its not a recurring expense just a massive burn through of investor monies.
shams93··on Why so many men in the US have stopped working
The assume this is voluntary we have been ejecting a certain demographic of male in the hopes to extra judicially eliminate them in an environment with 0 social safety net.
shams93··on Ask HN: What's Rabbit R1 business model?
They're using flutter under the hood so worst case for them they could pivot off hardware and into an app based agent.
shams93··on Ask HN: Is the Job Market Still Tough for You?
As far as I can tell the Los Angeles economy is utterly ruined. Down here things changed where the only real jobs require top secret security clearance and prior military service. All the things like Uber Eats have waiting lists you cannot just jump into the gig economy anymore. I have an MFA in writing but California made freelancing illegal for writers. They have me so destitute its impossible for me to leave Los Angeles.
shams93··on Ask HN: Is the Job Market Still Tough for You?
Absolutely!
shams93··on Ask HN: How do you get a job in 2024?
It's brutal I have been destitute for 2 years now, my unemployment ran out and there is nothing in la not even uber the big cities are dead.
shams93··on Job boards are still rife with 'ghost jobs'. What's the point?
What's worse is the clueless Feds count each of these as real jobs.
shams93··on WebSockets vs. Server-Sent-Events vs. Long-Polling vs. WebRTC vs. WebTransport
With ipv6 they can now be fully scaled easily but they are absolutely awesome, much easier to scale because you can give your client a simple list of sse services and its essentially stateless if done right.

Websockets get really complex to scale past a certain level of use.

shams93··on Ask HN: Has AI improved your life in any way?
So far only the Ai I trained myself, I won an award for that, but then was laid off due to github copilot being really good, and haven't found work since so its not been good.
shams93··on With all the talk of AI taking jobs, what jobs will AI create?
Its interesting because food stamps have a work requirement so basically when Ai kills your career and there is nothing else you are either good at begging like me or starved to death by the government.
shams93··on With all the talk of AI taking jobs, what jobs will AI create?
Older people cannot digest what is happening, here in LA County literally the only job openings are for psychiatrists.
shams93··on Ask HN: What is your prediction for the world economy in the next 10 years?
If the government becomes unable to tax the rich you'll see the rich have the homeless and jobless locked up and either sold into private prisons as slave labor or given the gas chamber. An irony because while abortion is illegal, so is being born into poverty.
shams93··on Biden cancels $1.2B in student loans
While at first I was jealous this is a focused program for a specific case in which these crappy for profit colleges abused these students and the system.
shams93··on PWAs wont replace native iOS apps
In the EU they are getting full chrome on ios, thus I imagine this means that Apple is allowing a chrome browser to handle PWAs.
shams93··on US Federal Reserve says its goal is 'to get wages down' (2022)
They certainly won with me, took me from 140k a year to around 45 cents a year.
shams93··on Modern Day Jobs: Bounded Reward and Unbounded Risk
You got it right on here, but since the only alternative to work is starvation (because medicaid and foostamps have employment requirements), you are basically born rich, or a gangster or you have no quality of life. Its ironic, while abortion is illegal its perfectly legal to starve ex-working class to death rather than provide foodstamps.
shams93··on America's economy is booming. So why are bosses worried?
If the economy is booming how come its so impossible to find work.
shams93··on Seaweed as a Resilient Food Solution After a Nuclear War
After such a war you get nuclear winter, global warming is solved but now its so cold no plants can grow.
shams93··on Ask HN: Is the job market dead or something?
I haven't been able to work for make money for 2 years now this situation would be deadly for me if my mom wasn't helping me out.
shams93··on Jobs you're applying to might not be real
Yeah I ran into this, people are fishing for social security numbers for fraud, if the salary is too good to be true its a good sign its a fraud post.
shams93··on Jobs you're applying to might not be real
I've seen it over and over and now you also see scraped postings for jobs from 2005, this economy is a total nightmare if you are not in the 1%.
shams93··on [dead]
Well if you've never nearly starved to death maybe you don't know
shams93··on What's Next for Ozempic?
You would think this could be useful for overcoming these extreme addictions to things like fentanyl and tranq.
