Quicksilver, with its magical plugins, will save you tones of time. I also have a mouse with many functions (hooray for Logitech), so I tend to bind those to Exposé.

I second Liquidweb. We've used them for over a year now and our servers runs like a champ. I'm actually going to test their new cloud product, Storm On Demand, soon. Hope it's also awesome.

Invite beta is definitely the way to go. We are also launching an unrelated web app in a few months and found that invites-only beta is great way to get people talking about your app.

We were in the same situation recently. We looked for programmers in specific programming/framework forums (ie. Cake Forum, CodeIgniter Forum since we are using PHP framework). After receiving a bunch of applications/resumes, we filtered out to the ones we think are good, then we phoned them and had a chat. With the Internet, you could use video conferencing programs like samratjp suggested. In our case, we were lucky since I was on a trip to where the programmer was so we actually met up before hiring.

Anyhow, good luck with the hiring!

wow, I did not know about the AmEx problem in Canada. Looks like there's more battling to do after setting up my merchant account/payment gateway. Did you guys look at PSIGate at all or did you just go with Beanstream?

That's exactly what I want to know. I definitely do not want to deal with PCI compliance. Sadly Authorize.net doesn't support banks in Canada.

My business bank account is with BMO, so I tried to contact their own solution called Moneris. Their sales rep didn't know what I was talking about. They tried to push me to use virtual terminal and other stuff that usually retail uses. In the end, the sales rep said she'd have to talk to the manager to see if they have anything like what I want. So that pretty much failed.

I was actually in contact with them recently. Did you receive bad service? I'd like to know before I go with them.

I'm looking for a subscription model so unless PayPal has a recurring billing, I can't use it. Thanks for the tip anyway.

Trust me, what you learn from high school will probably not help you at all. In fact, you'll forget all of it after graduation. However, the point of high school is to develop certain skills and to challenge you.

That being said, I'm in this situation as well. I'm a grade 12 student from Canada. However, I've decided to join the hacking and start up culture.
