sgoranson··on The Problem with Meritocracy
That Vonnegut short story is the first thing that comes to mind for the author's solution:

sgoranson··on Google Hack Attack Was Ultra Sophisticated, New Details Show
Effective or not, sending some bad links to a bunch of Google employees and hoping one of them clicks is not a 'VERY sophisticated process'. It's just a good example of how users will always be the weakest link in securing a network.
sgoranson··on Google Hack Attack Was Ultra Sophisticated, New Details Show
Their effort to obfuscate their tracks does sound pretty nifty, but part of me is disappointed that it all depended on the target clicking on something they shouldn't have. Glorified phishing schemes just don't have the pizazz of a remote buffer overflow exploit, for example.
sgoranson··on Humour is an act of aggression
I've evolved a self deprecating style of humor, mostly because I like to make people laugh without unintentionally stepping on anyone's toes.

Does that make me a dissociative schizophrenic in a power struggle with myself? (actually, after typing that out, that kinda describes who I am to some extent. "whoa." -keanu)

sgoranson··on Reversing The Pokerstars Protocol, Part 1: Compression and transport basics
Neat stuff, your Nethooker lib looks pretty nifty. I was confused about how the server emulator worked, or even what it was exactly. From your comment above, maybe that's a part II topic. A high level diagram of the key components would be helpful I think.
sgoranson··on We don't have enough nukes (Data visualization)
Clearly this guy has never played CivIII.
sgoranson··on Radiohead Says No More Albums
That kinda bums me out to hear. I know Radiohead's m.o. lately is revolutionizing the process of music production, and maybe they think albums are a relic of the old regime and passe or something. But can you really imagine if OK Computer was released one iTunes download at a time? yuck.
sgoranson··on White Collars Turn Blue (1996)
Fair points, but I thought his predictions on intellectual property issues changing the music industry were pretty astonishing for 1996.
sgoranson··on JavaScript Wolfenstein 3D Engine
Well, to get pedantic, I think the original Navigator fizzled out before CSS was truly supported. Not sure you could do it without it.
sgoranson··on JavaScript Wolfenstein 3D Engine
seriously...hard to believe that 12 years ago I thought my MIDI jukebox was as cool as javascript was going to get :)
sgoranson··on XML flaws threaten 'enormous' array of apps
Pretty skeptical this flaw could be in "virtually every open-source XML library available". Seems unlikely a million brains collectively missed whatever this is.
sgoranson··on Massacre Gmail Ads with These Two Sentences (and Some Tragic Words)
On a related topic: what do people think about ad blocking technology from an ethical viewpoint?

For me, I think I use the same screwy morality that I use when I'm downloading music...I don't mind stealing from wildly successful artists/businesses, but I'll gladly pay full price for a CD or click on an ad for someone who's just trying to pay the bills.

sgoranson··on Inventor's Bike Folds Into Its Own Wheel
Folding bikes are nothing new, but if he's right about this one being able to 'take punishment', I'd buy one. My current folding bike is handy for taking on the T, but besides that, I call it the clown bike because of how it looks and how it handles.
