seydor··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
To be honest i have no sympathy for immigra,,, er sorry expats. It is pure location arbitrage: rich pensioners moving to south europe to get a vastly bigger bang for their buck than they would get back home. It would eventually backfire, and i am glad it does. It was idiotic of the touristic countries to invite this kind of thing in the first place.

seydor··on Andreessen Horowitz is investing billions into a bleak future
Probably it's a random sample of AI companies. Curing cancer is the marketing slogan, AI is not capable of doing that. But it's good enough to impress bankers and lawyers who will keep inflating the bubble for the foreseeable future.

Trump attacked iran in the middle of negotiations. It's probably a pattern from the salesmen book he didn't even write.
seydor··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
The EU is definitely dragging its feet believing that Trump will go away and "normality" will return.
seydor··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
Pushing back against a US that is at this point economically and militarily dominant does nothing. It might push for cooperations outside the US-sphere.
seydor··on Canada suspends trade negotiations with USA and match tariffs dollar for dollar
Democracy is failing because people you don't like are being democratically elected. The opposite would indeedn be failure.

Just at the right time when China is looking to expand its exports. People said that Trump was Putin's stooge, but he might have been Xi's.

I'm concerned that governments worldwide are finding tarrifs to be a popular (and exciting!) way to exorbitantly increase the size of governments and goverment coffers which are then used for populist aims. We need to re-educate people that tarrifs are bad.

you are correct, there is a difference between a hot take and a laconic statement.

the issue is with attention-seeking. Platforms willingly turn their forums to competition for likes, instead of encouraging compromise, which is what drives interesting discussions.

seydor··on On A.I. regulation and messaging
We need proof that AI can climb the vertical axis and is not just horizontally expanding on what we already know. ANNs (including LLMs) are approximators of things that already exist , but science occasionally needs paradigm shifts and we have not yet seen any of it with AI.
seydor··on On AI regulation and messaging
That s the thing with all US companies (chinese cos don't seem to go metaphysical)
seydor··on On AI regulation and messaging
it's not fun - this forum started with infinite optimism in entrepreneurship, the PG stuff. Then about five years in it turned to "join a BigTech or you ll never be rich", then after AI everyone realized they are on borrowed time and most of them are already outside of the game, if there is a game at all.

seydor··on Beware the Permanent Periphery
> procuring the necessary compute to train and run advanced models at scale is becoming more and more expensive,

There will certainly be a glut of compute that will follow this extreme scarcity. There is already a flood of chinese models that are almost cutting-edge, and it's almost guaranteed this trend will continue as american AI gets better. There is no hidden magic in USA, it's pretty much doable, and it's being done.

In the end, the frontier models is not where the value will lie. The country that makes the best entrepreneurial rules for AI development will win economically.

Newsflash: the permanent periphery is already a reality for large parts of europe , asia . the world is half american
