The point of the article to me (author) was that i found it odd that Nix replaces the derivations when calculating the output path but not the derivation path. (talking about "paths" in Nix is so hard!)
Just says Invalid Response :(
Even the 'scopedImport' builtin isn't documented.
I agree. Kind of feels there's a lot to learn but also Nix is a complete departure from how we traditionally built software.
So if you think about all the implicit knowledge you carry with you when you move to other tooling, it's probably comparable.
Very cool.
Of course lots of software isn't ready for but reproduction which is why Nix has taken such a pragmatic approach. (I have written a lot about this).
It's all a series of tradeoffs. If your goal is reproducibility (as close as you can get), you will have a larger graph likely ..since you are accounting for more!
Sometimes we like to believe we can have our cake and eat it too rather than understand life's a series of tradeoffs.
When we think we are getting a silver bullet, we've likely just pushed that complexity somewhere else.
It sounds like it's a little bit too late, but I'm happy to provide some consulting on how you can get it to work idiomatically with Nix.
Product looks cool!
``` # AI cli (unstable.python3.withPackages ( ps: with ps; [ llm llm-gemini llm-cmd ] )) ```
looks like most of the plugins are models and most of the functionality you demo'd in the parent comment is baked into the tool itself.
Yea a live document might be cool -- part of the interesting bit was seeing "real" type of use cases you use it for .
Anyways will give it a spin.
I'm willing to add impurity especially about the system.
Having to define the systems feels unnecessary. Just define the targets for all systems and let me choose the one I want to build.
Coming across modules that forgot to add a particular system is frustrating.
Any other ways to circumvent this?
How do I start with Nix and not node.
Total tangent: 2024 Jujutsu was my favorite tool to learn and your posts helped me learn it. Thank you.
The other aspect that I didn't buy too much was the original blog entry claims the salary is enough since the founders themselves have kids and are living in San Francisco.
They are coming from a point of economic safety from prior successful ventures and maybe are on multiple boards with other income streams.
Anyways. I like the intent so I won't be too critical.
I liked putting the commit SHA on the title slide :)
