AI may have forced the hand on this. Users will no longer be able to subsidize software performance with hardware upgrades due to the great DRAM debacle of 2026..
This continuously drives me crazy on Windows and macOS. I am befuddled at the number of times where I'm searching for a top level subdirectory that starts with 'foo' but the search bar spins and spins..
Eventually I get fed up and just sort by name and perform an alphabetical visual search in meat-space.
To be fair, it's not just macOS, but many webpages which load dynamic content as well.
While I'm sure the cycling angle brings more tangible benefits, I suspect they (work and cycling) suffer from the same drawbacks of committing to an unending display of exertion and suffering.
The multi-uplink is intriguing. While on the surface it seems that an ostensibly 'plug and play' carrier aggregation dongle (no idea if this is actually a feature) would be a easy solution to smooth out poor connections, many networking hiccups encountered during travel just boil down to impossibly terrible RF environments, regardless of the spectrum or protocol.
From a cursory search, it appears that finnix is focused on the command line while knoppix provides a desktop environment. Don't most distros offer live boot environments these days? I know I've done this with Fedora, Debian, Suse, and Alpine at least..
Au contraire!
I got tired of the refrain "are you messing with the network again?" in the evenings when the neighbors are all streaming Netflix and crowding the airwaves, so I installed several low power UI APs around the house and and popped my own DNS and devices to a separate VLAN.
No more complaints :)
I do wish Unifi offered more configuration in the ad-blocking department, but I'm hesitant to inflict anything but the most vanilla deployment on the remainder of the household..
Not a new story in the progression of human endeavors; see the printing press, perspective painting, digital photography, residential construction.
For myself, those issues have been largely evitable; I think my longest current uptime on a running linux install is approaching 5 years..
This is not inaccurate, however every time I've had to interface with either Microsoft or Adobe issues, both the professional and community support have been abysmal. Both community forums seem to incentivize engagement to the point where every response is 3+ hyperlinks deep to someone else's vaguely related post.
Maybe the linux forums self select for independent problem solvers..
So f*ing steamed. Still. And Apple support had no clue and kept telling me it should all 'Just Work'.
