sebazzz··on China tells its AI leaders to avoid U.S. travel over security concerns
I've only seen billions be poured in LLMs and with those you're not going to control your drones.
sebazzz··on 400 reasons to not use Microsoft Azure
Oh man, how many hours were lost because a managed identity could not be retrieved (400 Bad Request)…
sebazzz··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
SpaceX Flacon 9 nozzles contain nyobium which is mined in Ukraine. It has been a problem since that invasion, and one of the reasons SpaceX sometimes flies short stubby nozzles when possible.
sebazzz··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
France has nukes. But for nukes it doesn’t matter in practice if you have 10 or 1000. If you use one, it is one too many. It only matters that you have them.
sebazzz··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
Not all dollars spend translate back to direct dollars earned, but rather political power or influence - which itself is a catalyser for other benefits. But some don’t seem to understand that.
sebazzz··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
They literally said: “This makes great TV” - and both right-wing Fox and the Russian media are cheering.

It worries me that no-one in the Republican Party looks at it and says: Russia is our enemy right, why are we doing exactly what they want and benefits them?

sebazzz··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
> Ukraine isn't in NATO.

Arguably the US isn’t either anymore . It is pretty clear that Trump won’t enforce Article 5 when Russia is the aggressive party. Which, by itself, might be a preparation to take Greenland. Both US and Russia are already interfering in the upcoming elections there.

It doesn’t sound crazy anymore, considering the shitshow we’ve seen the last four weeks sounded crazy before the inauguration.

sebazzz··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
Including the baltic states and Poland.
sebazzz··on The full force of this administration's destruction is about to hit
I would say that is bad for the economy. Especially for a society where there is nothing to catch those whole lose their jobs.
sebazzz··on Hundreds in US climate agency fired in latest cuts
What a negative conspirasist (if that is even a word) platform X has become. Really something to be proud on. Every sound you make on that platform, a truckload of sh*t you get dumped on you - especially if you have something like “scientist” or government employee in your profile.
sebazzz··on Starlink to take over $2.4B contract to overhaul air traffic control comms
Even with an RFP it can be corruption. The RFP can be written so that only a single specific vendor can deliver cost effectively.
sebazzz··on Teslas monitor everything – including you [video] from WIRED
> I don't expect bikes to take market share from cars.

Not in a society that is car-centric. But in countries that optimize for different types of transport, it is quite busy with bikes. Every commuter bike would have been a car otherwise - so also taking much more space.

sebazzz··on Second US Site Blocking Bill Introduced
Tor is seen as the web of criminals, so I suppose that is why there are no torrent sites there.
sebazzz··on Save Act would require all Americans prove citizenship when registering to vote
Voter registration is by itself a joke and voter suppression. In most of Europe every citizen gets a voting form send to their registered address together with the list of participants. They bring that with the government ID to the polling station with their government ID card, passport or driver license. Then they are allowed to vote, in confidence, and drop their voting form in the box - and that is the end of it.

No voter registration, definitely no registration which party you vote, and essentially everyone is included. But maybe that is thanks to Europes relatively organized governments.

sebazzz··on Jeff Bezos exerts more control of Washington Post opinion
The biggest issue with US media is allowing for opinion to be mixed with news. Essentially everything is opnion, everything is biased in some way. If you look at the other side of the pond you have news outlets reporting news without stating opinion, and highlighting multiple view points. Then there are separate talkshows where people around a table discuss news and other actualities. Doesn’t mean there isn’t bias in the news outlets, because they can still choose not to report on something - but generally it is fairly in the middle.
sebazzz··on ChatGPT Saved My Life (no, seriously, I'm writing this from the ER)
Yes, it is beautiful that someone can potentially self-diagnose with ChatGPT* - but if you're worried about your health, you really shouldn't need to use it and just be free to go to the GP or GPC (outside opening hours) without worrying if you are going to have a debt for the foreseeing time.

* with at the same time having this data nicely collected for OpenAI to boost further training

sebazzz··on Elon Musk spells danger for Accenture, McKinsey and their rivals
> The flipside of removing them is you now need to hire experts/specialists to do the work properly, not fire them...

Except that currently hired experts/specialists who don't argue correctly what their purpose is, are fired by Musk. The hole left is then to be filled up by external consultancy.

sebazzz··on Apache NetBeans 25
Still using a old version of NetBeans to develop a Java EE 7 application. I would switch to IntelliJ if possible, but honestly, unlike .NET - Java IDE and the toolchain are so much tied together (it is not just a bunch of MSBuild) files, chaining the IDE for a project that old and on life support anyway is a journey not worth it.
sebazzz··on Mere weeks after Starship's breakup, the vehicle may soon fly again
Regardless of all the political angles, I'm very curious how the (apparently legal) interference of Musk in the FAA will play out when it comes to SpaceX.
sebazzz··on Defragging my old Dell's UEFI NVRAM
Dual BIOS doesn't mean the manufacturer was smart enough to implement two separate storage spaces for efivars.
sebazzz··on Grok 3 claims its system prompt includes censorship about Musk/Trump
Misinformation and censorship will continue until the free speech improves.
sebazzz··on BYD has already produced its first solid-state cells
It doesn't however mean this battery won't go up in flames when there is an unprotected short. It has X kWh stored in it that must and will be released in a way when a short happens.
sebazzz··on Americans Are Heading for the Exits
It helps that many European countries don't have a presidential democracy but rather a parlementairy democracy - making the concentration of power and execution of bad ideas within a single party and person much more difficult.
sebazzz··on Americans Are Heading for the Exits
I wonder if we will see actual refugees from the US in Europe this term. People who aren't safe in the US anymore, like ones from the LHIBTQ community, government employees, Democrats. Things have already been crazier than most would have expected.
sebazzz··on 'The tyranny of apps': those without smartphones are unfairly penalised
The ING has a small Android based single-purpose authenticator device they offer to customers without smartphones. It can scan the QR code and do the auth.
sebazzz··on SpaceX engineers brought on at FAA after probationary employees were fired
Many people have so many of their own problems, debt, whatever, that it takes a lot more than this to get them out of their homes and on the streets.
sebazzz··on Elon Musk recommends that the International Space Station be deorbited ASAP
What is the supposed pushback for political reasons? Because this supposed pushback would only have worked for Trump, definitely not against him.
sebazzz··on Elon Musk recommends that the International Space Station be deorbited ASAP
Musk is making us want to go to Mars because of his and his partner Trump destabilization of this planet: political, societical, and environmental.
sebazzz··on A SpaceX team is being brought in to overhaul FAA's air traffic control system
Bleep bloop bleep bloop, looks like AI generated responses even reached Hacker News.
sebazzz··on In a last-minute decision, White House decides not to terminate NASA employees
You wrapped propaganda that NASA is useless nicely with a rant about DOGE and conflicts of interest.

NASA is not useless. Just look up how many innovations literally came from the ISS. And that is just one part of it.
