seastonATccs··on How Silicon Valley destroyed Parler
Just another confused person wondering why they just don't own their entire stack? If you ain't a rose don't plant yourself in a garden.
seastonATccs··on Parler Users Breached Deep Inside U.S. Capitol Building, GPS Data Shows
No but there WERE many honypot posts on Parler asking people to upload their phone recordings and identify who they were. Hundreds gave their contact info and specifically what they did during the attack.
seastonATccs··on Joint Chiefs remind U.S. forces that they defend the constitution
Nope Pence would become 46 and Biden would be 47.
seastonATccs··on Joint Chiefs remind U.S. forces that they defend the constitution
Direct Deposit. Soldiers aren't paid by their commanders. The US had an problem early on when man wanted a commission he would be responsible for raising and outfitting his unit. The troops were very loyal to their commanders as they paid their wages, provided the gear and supplies they would need. There were cases of commanders disserting and their entire unit would leave having no other source of funds. The federal government eventually started paying the promised wages.

Lol so far from it. This came from a bug assigned to me in JIRA like any other support ticket on any other bullshit day. Its just by the end of the day I realized I could access certain data from any gSuite domain. I submitted it through the bounty system as I didn't want it public in the issue tracker. I really just wanted the API fixed as we were getting shitted on by our customers...

I got a 5k payout from google for serious OAuth bypass bug. I'm not a security researcher so I wouldn't have any idea or really desire to sell something like this to a Government.
But I'd have to agree that if I had publicly revealed the bug Goog would have lost magnitudes of business or possible fines from governments far above and beyond 5k.
seastonATccs··on Google hasn’t updated its iOS apps in weeks to avoid providing privacy details
Lawyers lots and lots of lawyers.
seastonATccs··on The Cole-Bar Hammer, a 7-year old Kickstarter that is still going

I've play Star Citizen more then any other game in the last 5 years, well maybe on par with Skyrim. If you haven't seen it in a while the original scope of the game ( spaceship based sim ) is quite complete and polished. If all you want to do is hop in a ship, fight some pirates, do some pvp, missions or cargo hauling for credits to upgrade your ship or buy a new one its all there. Its a blast to play with a friend as most ships are multi-crew.
The scope creep has changed the goal from "Best damn spaceship sim" to "Best damn space sim". So yea the apple pie is going to take a while to bake.

seastonATccs··on Amazon hires 427,000 people in 10 months
I never go to Amazon to buy monoprice items. I go to monoprice and get guaranteed quality control over the items I will receive. If your products are compelling and your customer support is good I would prefer your own site vs going to Amazon.

seastonATccs··on Two members of videogame piracy group “Team Xecuter” in custody
My xbox with my xecuter chip is a family treasure. I ripped all my xbox games to the hdd. My kids have never played a console beyond the xbox. They've never asked.
seastonATccs··on Amazon investing $10B to compete against SpaceX in satellite broadband
The photo was disingenuous. Astronomers stack photos to remove interference. The photographer did the exact opposite.
seastonATccs··on How to Run a Live Coding Stream on Twitch Using OBS
I find twitch to be an unholy amalgamation of a NPR pledge drive and a Las Vegas slot machine.
seastonATccs··on Video Games Are the Future of Education
So I've got 4 four kids and was the tech director for a school district that was 1:1. We started iPads about 10 years ago but have now transitioned to Chromebooks. In my observations educational games work well with under 12. After about 12 years old social pressure and lack of complexity keep them from enjoying games that are "educational". Over 12 apps suck as Minecraft, Tynker, Scratch become more inline with an older kids interest. But if you DO make educational apps please keep it up. For example Stack the States / Stack the Countries has been a favorite in with all my kids.
seastonATccs··on FCC has “serious doubts” that SpaceX can deliver latencies under 100ms
We've looked at getting the cable provider to run cable to area of the district. I could be as high as 10k per house to get them to do the work. How much are downlinks. You may not understand what a school district will go to to make sure its students are served.
seastonATccs··on FCC has “serious doubts” that SpaceX can deliver latencies under 100ms
Because in the US broadband ISPs wont wire up rural areas. My local school district has 40% of homes that cable will not wire. 13% of them can not get cell service at home. They have taken so many millions of dollars in state and federal money to provide service, but utterly fail to do so. We had a real good opportunity to build a public ISP to service our school district. A local Indian reservation had built up the expertise as they had accomplished it on their lands and was offering it to us. We partnered with a quasi-public development authority to handle purchasing and installation of equipment. Site surveys. State/Federal licencing. Starting an ISP is hard. The week before we were to start installing equipment on end users homes the cable company, who previously said they no objection to this, dropped a lawsuit. This was after thousands of hours of work and many thousands of dollars spent. We knew we didn't have the money to fight it in courts so we folded. If they had said they would have objected from the start we would not have gone done the path we did.

This venture was to provide students internet access for a tiny rural school district. They have YET to increase their footprint in this rural area.

So I hope starlink takes every fucking customer they have.

seastonATccs··on Google's ambitious push into gaming is floundering
I got a Stadia though some re-seller partner program at work. Honestly it plays really well for me. I often forget I'm playing a game in a browser. The problem is lack of games and the controller on PC still has to be plugged in.

seastonATccs··on Google in, Google out
The google OAuth flow rolling out now has a more conspicuous account choose. Before when installing/authorizing the app selecting the account was virtually hidden.
seastonATccs··on Google is transforming public education with low-cost laptops and free apps
For us we only have 2 of us to cover all technology in our district. That is every from servers to networking to security appliances to the apps on the kindergarten iPads to writing custom tools for admin. We have to carefully choose tools we can manage in mass. I wish we could offer more, but there is no money for it.
seastonATccs··on Google is transforming public education with low-cost laptops and free apps
Classroom for us is used in elementary,3-5. We use canvas for middle and high. Classroom doesn't have the features yet to be used at higher levels, though it's getting there.
seastonATccs··on Google is transforming public education with low-cost laptops and free apps
For us Microsoft tools were the highest price point and we didn't use 50% of the features. Apple Enterprise is a joke though they are making good progress now. Google had just enough of a tool at a price we could really justify to the tax payers. As for Google evangelism we offer Google docs and office 365 online. Students are free to choose as Google and Microsoft have been awesome at cooperation in tools. We also have a training with outgoing seniors about how and why free accounts exist on websites. I've always told them they can used a paid account to retain privacy. To this date no seniors have chosen this. Most don't even convert accounts but just use takeout, the bulk data download tool.
