seaish··on Which Programming Languages Use the Least Electricity? (2018)
Question: if these were run on underclocked hardware, would they use less energy? It seems like you'd need an increasingly large amount of energy to run something in a smaller amount of time.

The first comma is simply incorrect. "unfortunately" does need commas around it, but it could be moved to the beginning for a simpler sentence.

The fourth comma is also incorrect and should be replaced by a semicolon.

"Unfortunately, the problem is that sometimes these tools are just not sufficient; it's still easy to shoot your own foot and get lost in a sea of complexity."

And looking at that now, I would also get rid of "the problem is that". "Unfortunately" and "sometimes" back to back lacks flow, so I would also replace "sometimes" (in this case with "often" in place of "just"). In the original, "just not" has a stronger grouping than "not sufficient", which is why "insufficient" wasn't used. Now with "just" gone, I'd swap back in "insufficient".

"Unfortunately, these tools are often insufficient; it's still easy to shoot your own foot and get lost in a sea of complexity."

seaish··on Dirty lenses (2016)
This article is missing a huge factor: aperture. If you go higher than f/11 the debris will start to get much more visible. All of the pictures in here are at f/5.6 or less.

Each pixel basically takes a weighted average of all the light that travels from a pixel-sized area in the world to the lens. As the picture with the dark area shows, this makes the debris form a dark area over a large part of the image. As the f number increases, the weighting gets stronger until 100% of it is a single line from scene to lens to pixel. At this theoretical f/infinity, you'll see all the lens's imperfections in perfect detail since the camera is essentially a pinhole.

seaish··on Ask HN: YouTube down?
Could be more (people stop watching and go outside) or less (people go back later to watch what they would've watched anyway, and free advertising for everyone talking about it) depending on several things.
