scragg··on Google Nexus 4 Sells Out In Less Than An Hour (in Australia)
Well if they sold out, wouldn't the units available and sold be the same? Unless they are selling units that don't exist yet. Apple does this too, they say "We sold out in x hours" and neglect to say how many units they sold. That info does come out later after the headline wears off.

Anyone else notice one of the engineers does not blink in the video?
scragg··on Reddit's database has only two tables
How do you handle the size of the table (which I assume has many rows). Do the inserts start to slow down as it grows? How much RAM did you have for a master DB instance? Thanks for any input!
scragg··on Reddit's database has only two tables
Well this sort of explains the question I was thinking... which was how they would deal with such a massive table? At some point the indices will grow very large and need to be split up some how or they won't fit in RAM.
scragg··on Microsoft Store hacked in India, passwords stored in plain text
I would like to add that MediaWiki does this. Here is the DB schema: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2c/Mediawiki...

When you do a SELECT * and with a join or two, you get the chance of field name conflicts which can cause logic errors. You either have to alias the conflicting fields, specify each field you want on the select, or prefix field names so they never conflict.
scragg··on Reddit: a necessary change in policy
I can relate to the decision Reddit made. Moderating the content on a forum is alot of work and it's frustrating. Eliminating the grey area is probably the safest move (on a legal stand point) although it will create many angry users that feel entitled. Expect mass bannings because users love to rebel then afterwards the inevitable "well you removed this but allow that" arguments.
