Except that me saying the amount is dependent on your situation is leaving some margin for if your child is special needs or you're going through a divorce or taking care of elderly parents or things of that nature where you'd probably want to decrease your risks by increasing the 12 months to 18 months to account for more unknowns that wouldn't apply to other people, for example. I do not consider it to be simple math nor a matter of an absolute right/wrong stance.
Now a Granny Smith apple here may be different to the Granny Smith apple I used to eat but this is just to illustrate that I am not comparing two different kinds of apples.
These may be useful settings for a certain kind of application under a certain workload. As usual, monitor your application and decide what is suitable for your situation. It is limiting to think in a binary way of something being sensible or not.
[0] Like "Best Practices". Any else you can think of?
But I agree. Some funds to fall back on is critical. The amount is highly dependent on your situation and risk comfort level and can be argued back and forth but not having any puts you at the mercy of whatever your employer/manager decides. Or even you getting sick and unable to work for a while. And even if the former doesn't happen, the latter definitely will at some point.
Though I am reading some of these comments and wondering why they'd call losing a job an end-of-the-world scenario. I've always thought people on this forum are the type of working professionals that could afford to put away a few hundred dollars a month even if they're not on SV wages. Mind you, I am not talking about an amount of money to allow you to retire but just enough to get you going for a few months until you can figure something out. Even if married and with children. That just changes the math a little bit but not the approach. Is there something I am missing?
I've been using it for quite a while now both for my personal projects and paid work and have had a good experience with it.
Borg working with object storage was not supported though some people did use it that way. From my understanding, most would duplicate a repo and upload instead of borg directly writing/manipulating it. This could problematic if the original repo was corrupt as now the corruption would be duplicated. So this will make things much easier and allow for a more streamlined workflow. Having the tool support rclone instead of specific services seems like a wise and more future-proof choice to me.
Conducting interviews over the last year or so had people telling me of their stories. The labor protection laws didn't seem effective except for clear cut cases and even then you'd probably just get a bit of money and you would've ruined your reputation of getting hired ever again because you're a trouble maker.
Unfortunately, I've seen people take it too far in both directions. Ones that could probably ace leetcode problems but did not have a good understanding of how software works and ones that were deep into marketing and branding but can barely write functioning code.
You'll have to look for what works for you. I am saying this both as someone who has to hire and someone who was looking for work at one point.
A lot of people around you will be very generous with their opinions and advice while often neglecting the part where you're supposed to gather context before offering any words. Think of it as writing code before knowing the details of the problem that you wouldn't be able to reproduce anyway. You can do it and I've seen many people try but it's quite an ineffective way to build software solutions.
My experience having installed one a couple of months ago is that the installer charged around 1.5k AUD just for the installation(by my calculation using retail prices) for a back to back "simple" install for the same brand and size mentioned. This is in Melbourne, Australia.
I did get multiple quotes that were the same and this was before peak summer season. The ones that were lower were either not licensed or wanted to do it for cash - meaning they wouldn't declare and pay taxes on it so the customer gets it for cheaper. It also means they won't give you an invoice and good luck claiming damages without evidence.
They blame the high cost of living but knowing some insiders, the margins are huge.
That place was a disaster. I mean the half-the-team-ends-up-leaving kinda disaster.
Figuring out when "it's you and not me" takes a lot of introspection and that's usually accompanied by a lot of self doubt. You can't really tell except long after the fact.
Reading the PEP, it recommends pipx but it recommends that you get it via your distribution instead of using pip --user which will no longer now work without the --break-system-packages flag. It also mentions the irony of that. Though I think in this case and if you don't want to use the distro packaged pipx, using the break flag won't cause any harm.
I don't think anything like that could exist anyway seeing as how every child and their circumstances would be different.
Tylenol is not for treating the illness. Maybe the parents you're referring to don't know what it does. It is meant for decreasing the intensity of the symptoms. One of those symptoms could be a fever and potentially the body aches that come with that. But then you have to define the word "fever".
Giving the baby Tylenol as you're describing is probably not a good idea. Using it as the tool it is meant to be I would say is.
In most non-western cultures, the mother sleeping in close proximity to the baby is the norm and anything else is considered quite unusual.
As an aside, I find that labeling of junior and mid-level and senior very confusing because I've been interviewing people who claim they're experienced but don't even understand the basics. And I am not talking about algorithms or white boarding or live coding or any of that nonsense.
This is in Australia but may not be country-specific. The job ads I've been noticing for the past couple of years are asking for an increasing amount and level of experience for their roles so I agree with you that it will be a problem in the future.
- That tablet is going to be dropped. A LOT. So invest in a good rugged cover. Something not too thick though as they won't be able to hold it.
- At that age they love applications with flashing lights and sounds but try to review the apps/games thoroughly to make sure they don't overstimulate the child.
- The GCompris suite of educational apps is excellent. They're all meant to show something different(color matching, counting, letters...) and there's a difficulty filter for various age groups. I believe it's available for iOS.
- Racing games with upbeat music and sound FX seems to be popular but only if you play with them. A game called Pixel Wheels is pretty good.
- The UI and touch interface is challenging for a young child to manipulate and requires a more delicate control of their hands and fingers. They'll pick it up quickly but the bigger the buttons, the less frustrating they will find it. Hardware buttons don't have this as a problem because of the feedback your brain gets when you use it.
- VLC has the ability to lock the screen when watching a video. Otherwise they'll accidentally do a swipe gesture and close or stop the video. Very useful.
I should add that this is only what I found on fdroid on Android. Be careful and review the permissions and policies of any application you get as a lot of them want to capture and sell your data and target you with ads. That's why I went with an fdroid-only setup(which limits my options) and I'll donate for the applications I find useful.
Happy to share more specifics in private if you'd like to reach out. edit: formatting
The introspection you're talking about requires a strong moral compass and sadly its existence is not as common as you think/hope.
In my opinion, that wasn't a mistake. The manager was telling the employee that he was doing great for a long time and then suddenly told him that he wasn't.
What does "took full responsibility" mean in this case? The manager will face no consequences at all and the apology sounds a lot like a politician's apology.

I wrote it because I needed it.And figured it might be useful to others.
I have a few ideas of where I want to take this but I'd like some feedback from other potential users would there. Specifically, the web side of the project - mostly being the statistics page - has a lot of potential since I've been collecting data for the past 3 years. All feedback is welcome.
In the backend, it uses django and bulma and Vue. That's my current favorite stack. The code is open source(released recently) and on my github if you'd like to take a look.
The matching can make use of some clever ML techniques but for now, it does simple keyword matching. I wanted to get the content and page done before I deep dived into the fun stuff.
Granted, saying leave is easy to do but the OP might not be able to due to their financial situation or other circumstances. So maybe leaving is not the right option but I don't believe this relationship can be salvaged so checking out(either mentally or physically) is the only way forward, as I see it.
