That isn't going to be very helpful is it?

> can you build a website to promote the app

> can you add a page showing off the winamp mode

Looks good, but ran into loading spinners fairly quickly, large playlists kill this, I suspect because the api is not properly respecting the cache headers and is refetching the same information repeatedly and thus getting rate limited. Also

Once that happened I wasn't then sure if issues I'm seeing are from api or the app itself. It's possible this is prioritising the responsiveness of the UI rather than the actual speed of user interactions.

Also the menu bar icon doesn't work for me (on MacOs). I can see it, but it doesn't do anything and there's nothing in the app itself to enable/disable it (though thankfully it does respect cmd+drag to delete).

We've been using Keycloak for a while, it's definitely not bad, but there are times when it's been frustrating, and getting it both stable and scalable seem to be incompatible goals.

It's super powerful and can do whatever you want it to do (at least if you are comfortable writing Java SPI). But there's a lot of knowledge of how to set things up that takes time and is not readily acquired.

For the record we looked at Ory early on, but it was not mature enough and didn't offer a full IdP stack at the time. We've since looked again and found there to be some conventions around how it works that made it hard for us to consider migrating from Keycloak.

sceptic123··on The End of Programming
It's a learning curve, but it can work, you just need to be comfortable with large (and likely quite negative) reviews for the inevitable large MRs that will get generated.

The important things to get right are the same as they were before though. Work from well refined stories that are not too broad in scope. Ensure you have enough good acceptance criteria that will help prove that the code works as intended.

Is the "Water Project" intended as a sly dig or some kind of nod to AI water use concerns?
sceptic123··on Don't Paste the AI, please
Don't make the "Don't paste the AI website, please" site. You can rather use some kind of search tool to find one of the many that already exist. If it's not quite saying what you want, maybe just reach out to the author with an ask for them to update it. Then we get one place everybody knows about, rather than the many many sites (likely all AI generated anyway) that dilute the message.

Isn't there value to the verbose information too? Knowing what a tool does and what the inputs are increase the likelyhood of successful tool calls.

I'm questioning what the purpose is of pushing it at this point in the project lifecycle. It may not have a fancy website but it is making flashy marketing claims in that readme. How about being upfront about the maturity of the project before making the kind of comparisons that it does.
sceptic123··on A PHP server that can handle 10x as many concurrent requests as Nginx+PHP-fpm
I'm curious on the goal of releasing software like this, it's making some crazy claims right out of the gate, but is obviously not production ready or battle hardened. There's some reasonably obvious security issues and not a single test of any kind in the project.
sceptic123··on How to spend 15 years perfecting a product
I don't think that is a good title for what looks like a marketing plug for a git course. There's nothing of substance in there that suggests there's 15 years worth of anything going on.

sceptic123··on Show HN: 18 Words
Having a timer is maybe not so much the problem, but there's no reward here for doing early words quickly and no appreciation for the fact that difficulty is not linear. Would be nice if you could bank up some time for when harder ones come.

sceptic123··on Why AI hasn't replaced software engineers, and won't
> Atrophy. I've already noticed that I am slowly starting to atrophy my ability to write code manually. Generation (writing code) and discrimination (reading code) are different capabilities in the brain. Largely due to all the little mostly syntactic details involved in programming, you can review code just fine even if you struggle to write it.
