Awesome, very addicting! Love how smooth it works.
scary-size··on Show HN: Just Launched an App for Dads
I think I would have liked to have one free guide. Then I can make an informed decision whether to commit to using the app. I also was irritated that the "sign-in/paywall" only showed up after few pages into the guide. Be upfront about it, be honest. Clearly indicate that sign is required.
scary-size··on Show HN: Just Launched an App for Dads
Looks nice enough, so I downloaded it. Lost me at the signup step within the first guide. I don’t see the need for this if don’t plan on subscribing to your paid plan. Though I can understand it form a business perspective.

I‘m using excalidraw often at work. It really helps you to keep things simple. Prevents you from cramming several level of details into one diagram.
scary-size··on Show HN: A tiny iOS Safari extension to make Reddit work on mobile again
I like the idea and simplicity. But it's going to be hard to compete with Apollo for Reddit.
scary-size··on Ask HN: How do you store large amounts of structured data?
Define "large". Also define your access pattern.
scary-size··on Ask HN: Falling Asleep to Podcasts
Most nights I go to sleep with a podcast in my ears. I only skip it if I feel already really tired and have nothing on my mind to mull over.

1. Exclusively history podcasts: The History of Rome, Revolutions, Hardcore History, History of Napoleon.

2. I use really cheap corded in-ears: Sony MDR-EX110LPB. If they break, it's nothing to be sad about. I just get new ones. Bought the current pair in 2017.

EDIT: I set a sleep timer of 30 minutes. That's enough for most nights.

scary-size··on Show HN: LeftWrite, a site to slow down and write about what you read
It's off putting that I can't do anything without first creating an account. Would love to just jump in.
scary-size··on Real-Time Tokyo Subway Map
That's cool, especially like that the parallel lanes don't overlap. I did something similar, but simpler, a few years ago for Hamburg's public transit "hvv" [1]. Described my approach in a blog post [2]. Hasn't been updated in three year, so probably some lines are broken.

scary-size··on Ask HN: Show your failed projects and share a lesson you learned
I’m building something similar, though much simpler. A desktop app for creating static websites. You build your site offline and preview locally. Then deploy it to hosting, currently integrated with Vercel. But it also outputs the static files. Have a few thoughts about monetization, though that would be more of a “nice to have”.

Cool! How did you recruit the beta users? Shared among friends? Or did you use dedicated service?
scary-size··on Show HN: Daily – Desktop app for building simple websites
Hey HN!

I've been working on Daily in my spare time for a few weeks now. It's a desktop app for creating simple, blog-style websites. I mainly built it for my dad. We started out with a static site generator using markdowns and dropbox. But markdown was still quite the hurdle. So I tried focusing on making things easy for non-technical users.

It's still quite rough around the edges, but it does the basics.

Happy to have your feedback! Feel free to e-mail at hello[at]project-daily.com

scary-size··on Show HN: Md2blog – A zero-config static site generator for dev blogs
Static websites are great! I would love for them to be more popular. But a lot of people are locked out by the technical hurdle. "Just use <SSG> and host on <github/netlify/whatever>" does not work for your aunt, parent or SO.

I've tried and went into a different direction and created a desktop app [1] for creating a basic website. Yes it's electron and yes it currently only uploads to Vercel for hosting. But those are things my dad does not care about. I can send him a pre-configured "project" file, so he does not even have to enter any API keys.

EDIT: I've re-read this and this sounds like I'm ranting on your project. Not my intention, I love the bloat free sites md2blog generates. Keep it up!

scary-size··on Why I built my own static site generator
Message me at "h e l l o AT project - daily DOT com". Remove the spaces etc. I will try to keep you updated. I am also planning on generating an RSS feed from the app itself. Once this works, you can subscribe that.
scary-size··on Why I built my own static site generator
I have taken a different route [1]. Started to work on a desktop app for creating static sites. It features a block/frame based editor, works fully offline (except deployment of course). It should specifically target non-technical users.

Th last twenty Bloomberg Money Stuff [1] columns get into the details of SPAC vs IPO. Matt Levine does a pretty good job explaining finance stuff to non-finance people.

scary-size··on Show HN: Haven – Run a private website to share with only the people you choose
Nice work! I setup a private page for sharing baby photos with friends and family too. We only post photos with a small description, so I opted for e-mail as my “api”. The server runs a script periodically and just rebuilds the full “feed” as a single html file based on those mails. It also does some image and video optimization/normalization, but it’s all statically served via nginx.
scary-size··on Serverless SQLite
This was just a proof-of-concept using the smallest lambdas available. I definitely would opt for a EC2 instance. Though lambda would be enough for something like a configuration service.
scary-size··on Serverless SQLite
Nice, you can actually do something a bit more flexible using SQLite on AWS Lambda. "Just" mount an elastic file system (EFS) onto your functions. I wrote about it here: https://franz.hamburg/writing/shared-storage-for-lambda-func...

scary-size··on Ask HN: What's your quarantine side project?
I've finally started a blog to republish my Medium posts:

Also I'm working on a small server side analytics solution:

And of course: bread.

A sqlite based web analytics tool, currently working on week-over-week, month-over-month view.
