what kind of format does the public record give you?

Is it reasonable or do you have to scrape through and make your own JSON?

click bait, misleading title.

my interest in btc began to increase when I started to learn about "money".

Did you know that all fiat (government issued/backed) currency is inflationary by nature? The reason the Swiss used to be regarded for having the strongest currency was because it was still backed by gold. They are mostly fiat now sadly.

So you say Bitcoin has no long term foundation? How about a hedge against inflation? the USD will ALWAYS lose value over time ABSOLUTELY. If I don't want to lose the value of my fiat, and there is enough people who also feel the same way by exchanging it for cryptocurrency, in which direction can we expect the price of bitcoin to go ?

*sidenote - bitcoin is capped at 21 million tokens, hence NOT inflationary.

sayurichick··on Ask HN: Why is the community so negative towards blockchain technology?
again, the use case I made up is not important. And to argue the use case would be missing the point.

However, for argument's sake. People can counterfeit drivers licenses, or passports. Good luck trying to counterfeit something on the blockchain.

Edit: to expand on this, think of a poor country who doesn't have their technology up to par as a 1st world country. To build the infrastructure to even have that government database is costly versus using an already existing infrastructure to do most of the heavy lifting.

sayurichick··on Ask HN: Why is the community so negative towards blockchain technology?
really? I read that post as "writing a ToDo app using the blockchain as your datastore versus a traditional database is bad". Well yeah, there are different tools for each job. If everything is a nail and you're only used to a hammer, then of course trying to use this new tool as a hammer will sound silly.

I obviously can't predict the future use cases, but an example off the top of my head might be something like a country issuing social security numbers at birth using the blockchain. Suddenly that "expensive" operation can be seen as extremely cheap given the utility. Go ahead and attack the example, but like I said, just something off the top of my head.

https://coin.dance is a good site for data.

There is a pro-blockstream agenda on reddit, and bitcointalk (theymos owns both). coin dance shows what % of users are running whatever fork, shows volume , transactions, node counts, etc. etc.

Why does that matter? You can see the truth (data) for yourself rather than what people are saying/censoring.

sayurichick··on Ask HN: Will Bitcoin price collapse again in 2017?
how would HN know? no one can predict with actual certainty.

However, It is true that as time goes on, volatility reduces. high price makes it harder to fluctuate as quickly, and as new bitcoin continue to get mined, the volume increases as well.

what about the silk road? I would argue that it worked TOO well that the people who currently run the drug business didn't like losing a piece of their pie.

I'm not arguing the ethics of buying drugs, simply that this was a perfect use-case for cryptocurrency that did not exist before.

serious question. isn't the function* way of doing things outdated already? I thought generators with function* and yield were replaced by

async/await?

hi, did you use express?koa? or the httpserver for it?

I am using koa and was wondering if you ran into any gotchas that might help me.

also, what % of your code is server-side, versus clientside react?

im curious why you're so angry at bitcoin. it's just open source software, that is VOLUNTARY.

it clearly challenges your beliefs/ideologies to a point that you spent the time to comment and try to frame bitcoin in a negative light.

Is it bitcoin (the software) scamming people? or is it humans?

and most importantly, what are your reasons for wanting bitcoin to fail?
