sashagim··on Ink removes the free tier
As surapaneni rightfully commented - they do offer a free plan for personal use, which you'll be able to use.

I'm using them for some commercial projects just as a client side library to allow uploading files to my s3 account (although they do some work on their server side as well). It's a shame they're changing the terms for the existing user. I don't expect things to be free - unless they are offered as such, with no expiration date.

sashagim··on Vinod Khosla wins key Martins Beach battle
This quote from Wikipedia describes it as a particularly bully like behavior.

"Martin's Beach was previously a popular family beach and surf spot before Khosla purchased the property adjacent to the beach and blocked access."

sashagim··on Manager.io – Free accounting software for small businesses
Hey there! The software looks very good, although I'm not in your target audience. Good luck!

I'm curious as to why have you decided to package this as a desktop software, rather than a web app?

sashagim··on Reddit for Music: How We Got 1,000 Users In A Weekend
That looks cool! I'm having a hard time finding a good way to discover good music. Currently my favorite, although not optimal - is to go over grooveshark playlists published on /r/groovesharkplaylists.

Some concern about this approach is that I think consuming music in such way wouldn't be much fun - unlike hn, on a music site a 'play all' would make more sense than playing one by one, but here's the catch(es): 1. No way to listen just to the new (to me, sort of 'unread') good music 2. Playing from top to bottom would mean the songs get progressively less good.

I would add a 'best songs' list - all the song above let's say 20 points. This is something I could automatically play on shuffle, occasionally getting new entries from the recent days.

anyway, best of luck! I'll give it a try!

sashagim··on How to build great products
If you point me at a market and say "build a product for this market", I'm pretty confident I could do that and be the best.

That's quite a bold statement! Any market? A social network, an online retailer, a search engine, a mobile phone, a browser, an electric car? Give me a list of those books you've been reading! But then of course, we could create a paradox - we can't both be best, can we? :)

I believe creating the best product has an amount of luck in it. The better work you're doing - the better are your odds, but at the end, like making an Oscar winning movie, like writing a top of the charts song, like writing a bestselling book, like a perfect storm, a lot of the right things need to happen. But that of course shouldn't stop us from trying!

sashagim··on Ask HN: How much recurring income do you generate, and from what?
That's very impressive - both in terms of revenues, and product development! Are you doing all the design and development work yourself?
sashagim··on Mark Zuckerberg Talks With Atlantic Editor James Bennet
It's based on how many years the person heard or read about zuckerberg, and how many years he's spent on earth learning about life. The statement is an opinion (and is phrased accordingly), and it's based on his or hers unique perspective of life, in other words - the personality. Don't dismiss that, it's your biggest asset.
sashagim··on In Silicon Valley start-up world, pedigree counts
your numbers are off - took me a lot of tab switching on my tablet to figure out the mistake :) it should be millions, not billions, and they represent the proceedings (the amount raised on IPO), not the market cap.
sashagim··on An Interview Question Too Many Developers Get Wrong
I think a different way to ask this question will help you learn more about the candidate. After the trivial answer has been given - ask whether the solution would change if you knew the query will be done several times for the same array, or could it be done more efficiently.
sashagim··on A new search engine
thanks

So how exactly do you get better results 30 seconds later? How do you index more relevant pages? Do you... Google it?

sashagim··on Bitcoin Hits $1 Billion
That's true only if you assume the motivation is purely financial.
sashagim··on Show HN: My Weekend Project: One-Click Developer Portfolio Website
"that's what happened"

It didn't just happen - seems like you have intentionally copied someone else's idea, down to naming and design. You're obviously entitled to do so, but it's not something I would run bragging about on hn, especially without giving any credit the original work.

And saying "I don't see a problem here" after the original creator has pointed (quite gently) to the fact, is not very empathetic of you.

sashagim··on Show HN: Boldfaced, a portfolio designed for showing off writing
Sound like a great idea, good luck!

I often read a paragraph or two from a book just to get the feel of it, so if your site would display those, people like me could use it as a sort of discovery engine for book or authors.

In terms of design - take a look at changemakrs.com, they're doing a good job at presenting content (quotes, in their case) in a very appealing way.

sashagim··on Haystack wrongly accused of Plagiarism
The concept of using the social graph to create a better dating app is certainly not extremely groundbreaking, but I'm curious about the naming. The claim that "Haystack is an extremely likely name for a dating app" is a weak one - the fact is that no one thought about it up until a few month ago. On the other hand - I doubt someone would just steal the name of a potential competitor. My theory is "unconscious plagiarism". Someone on that bus heard something about the original app, didn't really remember it, but when the guys brainstormed about the name - haystack popped up.
