I can write code on Linux, but I cannot run my accounting/finance/photosoft software. Sometimes I need to run test on IE too.
I understand the love for Linux for some people, but I would like to get things done the quickest way, of course with the quality required too.
I really like the Surface Pro. It's a very nice combo of a tablet & a laptop with lots of power like a laptop.
I've used Dell's XPS & Inspiron models. They've last quite long. Their hardware does fail after 4+ years, but acceptable and replaceable and they're inexpensive to replace. I do own a Windows desktop with Xeon core, and it's very powerful PC. Its price is probably 1/4 of the Mac Pro.
Definitely not HPs, they're bad computers, both laptops and desktop.
Thinkpads are good, but I've never tried one after Lenovo took over.
I hope my Macbook days would be over soon. After using Macbook Pro many years, I find good Windows machines are as reliable as Mac's ones.
Apple products are usually overpriced, much less options for hardware accessories and upgrades, very expensive to fix.
I have to keep running both Mac & Windows machines which is very inconvenient sometimes.
I had back pain for 3-4 years and I did many form of exercises including back/neck stretching, yoga, running, walking, jogging, changing work posture, changing table, trying to not sit long. And nothing had ever worked for long. Sometimes I had to take advil or tylernol to ease up the pain. I've heard and researched about the issue and it seemed like a scam to get a really effective cure everywhere.
6 months ago, I decided to take vitamin D3 + Glucosamin and the pain seems to get better, or a lot better. Then 3 months ago I decided to take Moringa powder daily (I usually don't take anything during weekend to let my body recover), and my back pain issue is now gone.
I am not sure how long this would last but it's the best method I've found so far to cure my own back pain. I've tested many kinds of vitamins but I find natural vegetable powder are the best form to absorb and seems to produce positive results, at least from the products produced by my body.
Nothing about S-Corp? We did the C-Corp twice and we've never got to the level we wanted so we switched both times to S-Corp. Currently we're as S-Corp and it saves us a lot of money.
> if Peter said some of the things Trump says himself, he would no longer be part of Y Combinator.
I find this logic is similar to the logic some GOPs use to support Donald Trump. Even though they condemned him for saying lewd/racist comments (or even committed to), they still give him the support. I don't know how you would continue dodging this for Peter when Donald Trump is being sued for actually committing to a criminal offense. YC needs to draw a line instead of playing this blurred line.
This is an excellent step to getting people more motivated and productive.
I don't find working more hours improve my life in any positive way. It's much less satisfying as I want to commit some hours to learning or creating something new.
I think reading comments is important just like customer service. Maybe it's a little easier since we can ignore the ones that are offensive or irrelevant, or you can say in another way "developing thick skin". I often find a lot of useful information by reading comments.
Even though I was born and lived there for almost 20 years and coming back almost every year for the last 10 years, I really don't feel this kind of fast development described in the article.
Politics really has big impact on economic development and the country has struggled as much as others within the region. It follows similar pattern like China's and it heavily got influenced by politicians who favor policies leaning toward China.
Only cities like Ho Chi Minh and Ha Noi get that much of attention and heavy investments. Other parts of Vietnam is still in very poor condition.
However, I really believe that it's a very good place for investment besides all the political mess because its workforce contains young/large/talented people.
False comparison: it's important to point out technologies, tools, track quality, and many other factors in this race. We haven't really improved that many seconds. David Epstein has a very good talk about whether we've really gotten faster, better, stronger:

"Finding a link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and an outcome affecting the child is no proof that acetaminophen is the cause of the outcome. But the authors contend that the study results do heighten concerns that fetal exposure to acetaminophen can give rise to neurodevelopmental problems." This study and its results are misleading. The scope & method aren't good for the conclusion. It doesn't answer whether people should use tylernol while pregnant or how much can they consume.
I really like your reading because I went to a time period when everything I read was so misleading even words from doctors. That's the time when I tried very hard to improve my health (I gained about 30 lbs since the time I came to this country 15 years ago). To do that, I ate less fat, avoid carbs, getting a lot of exercises (1-3hrs a day, at least 5 days a week), eating oatmeal, even taking statins. And all one failed after another. I went through a lot of things mentioned here. And finally I decided to forget about everything doctors and researchers said. I look at my parents diet and how I was raised and started slowly from there. My health then got improved much better. I'm glad that you wrote something here for everybody to read. But there's one point I would like to add to the recipe:
improve mental state by listening to the body (meditation, yoga, brisk walking are good methods), eat only when the body feels hungry and stop eating when it feels full, eat the food that it feels good after eating (you will develop your own list).
I lost about 10lbs and I don't gain/lose any weight for the last 3 years.
It looks like Apple wants to get the Chinese super star startup(s) to depend more on their giant pile of oversea cash; thus to protect their brand, make their strong hold on this market which is influenced very much by the state. Look at their stock today, Google is surpassing and it has no other future rather than protecting its iPhone, iPad, Macs which are pretty much saturated.
I admitted that tipping gives a good incentive to the person providing the service as I myself felt before. But I dislike tipping as I see people react differently whether you tip or not and the amount you tip. It was quite hard for me to really know what percentage to tip the person happy and to continue a good service. How do you gauge the quality of the service to tip 15-25% or even higher? That's just playing with our emotion.
Social vs Work, which one should we be more serious? Can they work together? I think probably not. Work productivity will decrease dramatically if we shift our focus to social.

It's nice that we have Google ensure our TP-Link router to function correctly, hopefully. I'm frustrated with my current TP-Link router since it often needs a reset once in a while. Btw, should this design be changed because it looks to me that the top is very good at collecting dust and dead bugs. I don't expect to buy this and box it.
