samus··on What game engines know about data that databases forgot
Isn't this pretty much what SQL databases with column stores provide? It's not a novel idea at all, but obvious to anyone who knows how caches work and how to optimize applications for it.

Guess what kind of person has an inherent motivation to gain power and has the traits necessary to do so?
samus··on Peptides: where to begin?
Sure, they are not mercury-level toxic. However, these recommendations are for people who consume way too much of these dishes, and it's a safe assumption that this is the case for a significant part of the population.
samus··on In Japan, the robot isn't coming for your job; it's filling the one nobody wants
That's IMHO not a concern at all in Japan. Being polite and accommodating to customers is held paramount.

It's not just people with power. Even if he had taken care to conciliate people with connections, it would have eventually blown up by someone going to police directly.

It is if you somehow can get away with it. Typically, people higher up in society tend to have an easier time doing so.

Indeed, it should burn in hell, and most of its companion platforms and its competitors should join it.

Since we all live in the same global society, the existence of birth control technology has effects that are independent of evolutionary processes.

If the thing directly impacts them then yes, it should get to ruin things for the rest. If you don't understand why that is desirable then somebody should make a website describing which NSFW websites you like to frequent to spook your future investors.

- reproductive drive being what makes biology and evolution work,

- no birth control,

- tacit toleration of rape in marriage, and

- no pension systems in preindustrial societies means that people without children are going to have a rough time in old age.

samus··on In Japan, the robot isn't coming for your job; it's filling the one nobody wants
Evolution is not involved anymore in this since effective measures for birth control became available.

> Who do you trust more - the robots or the human staff? And I'm asking about America, or maybe, in Japan as foreigner?

What do you mean with "trust"? Write down the right order? Or not spit in your food?

samus··on Is Germany's gold safe in New York ?
Would buying and then selling work? Or is the market simply not liquid enough for such a strategy?

samus··on France pulls last gold held in US for $15B gain
Very succinctly stated, thank you!
samus··on France pulls last gold held in US
The USA is threatening to pull out of NATO anyway, so those might go away.
samus··on France pulls last gold held in US for $15B gain
The gold price is fluctuating. It doesn't always go up.
samus··on France pulls last gold held in US
Dumpling $15B on the market should lead to a drop. Anyway, the gold price is not always going up.

Money is a tool (maybe not the best) to make an economy with division of labor work. It's not required and probably also doesn't work in societies where everybody knows everybody else and can make sure that the right things are done and nobody slacks off.
samus··on In Japan, the robot isn't coming for your job; it's filling the one nobody wants
I'm not sure you'll attract the right kind of people with that much money. Probably a lot of people looking for a quick buck will apply, do a good job for long enough to not get outright fired, collect a few cash checks, and then knock it off.

I think there would actually be enough people willing to do blue collar jobs if job security is alright. Low-status jobs are defined by low job security, not necessarily by harsh working conditions.

Where do you think husbands get their money from?
samus··on Caveman: Why use many token when few token do trick
As a non-native English speaker I think English is actually not that bad. Just the orthography is beyond awful :)

It is still strictly better since the actual customers get priority.
samus··on Caveman: Why use many token when few token do trick
Both Slavic languages and German have complex declination systems for nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Which is unlike stereotypical caveman speech.
samus··on Caveman: Why use many token when few token do trick
There have been papers about introducing thinking tokens in intermediary layers that get stripped from the output.
samus··on Caveman: Why use many token when few token do trick
The solution to that is turning off thinking mode or reducing thinking budget.
samus··on Caveman: Why use many token when few token do trick
There's linguistic term for this kind of speech: isolating grammars, which don't decline words and use high context and the bare minimum of words to get the meaning across. Chinese is such a language btw. Don't know what Chinese think about their language being regarded as cavemen language...

Lead times increasing to four years doesn't necessarily mean that every order will take that long. Since the additional orders are just there to cover idle periods, the government could omit an expected delivery time so regular orders don't get delayed.
samus··on German men 18-45 need military permit for extended stays abroad
The reality is that most women are simply not interested in raising more than two children per person. If this is undesirable from a societal perspective then they either need to be forced (which I hope you're not seriously suggesting) or the incentives to raise more children need to be increased (atm there are none except personal satisfaction) and the downsides need to be mitigated (without a stable career, women are wholly dependent on their spouse's income).
