I still believe that a radical (slightly mad) scientist tucked away in his garage lab will come up with the Inertialess Drive and we will all be off the planet at will.
More pragmatically I doubt I could get through this book now and it would be just old hat to anyone post Star Wars.

It's good.
I have significant issues with the core argument, but mostly due to it's naïveté.
It does not address the issue that there are numerous, hmm, micro-languages. Say one invented spontaneously between twins that only the twins and say a couple grad students (maybe) will ever be fluent. The twins language may be incredible but it is useless to order a big mac.
Can two autistic folk each with their own totally valid non-verbal language ever communicate?
The world is getting so specialized, perhaps with tools some very smart folks cut off due to neurological, er differences, will become dynamic members of the greater society.
I really liked the view down the slinky, good thing that it was not a full 9 minutes of just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. just that. (wow, doesn't it feel good typing just that ;-)
Next Media's research focus spans the linear and interactive media spectrum from television, broadband, and gaming to combinations of traditional media forms or emerging media forms too new to have a name. The group partners with product groups within Microsoft and select outside content partners such as museums, and public broadcasting to develop conceptual and working prototypes which best demonstrate the functionality or vision for media that can anchor new businesses, services and consumer experiences.
(Thus my guess is a fullscreen handheld device with gesture input that runs Outlook, IE and Excel ;-) (but photosynth does seen quite cool)
Well except I read that there was an emacs macro that business folks at Amazon used for years. Hmm, maybe if there's an ArcEmacs rewrite?
I would actually like it if IMDB put focus in their search box, when I'm looking up a director of photography or such, I'm just impatience and would like to go, type, enter, read. The extra click to type is annoying. But I still don't know if they should actually implement that as I have not done a real analysis of how the broad community uses the site.
Hmm, a points system for new things, how cool/hard/prestigous and and points for doing one. But then be careful to moderate dangerous options. Hmmm, yea, lost an arm, but whoa I got a lot of points... Don't wanna see that comment in your forum, eh?
Yep, the Duke Nukem Forever rewrite is waiting for Arc.
