sad··on Dear HN, I wrote a Firefox extension that strips out google links from adwords
Convince Google to take privacy more seriously and you may have a point. Until then we have no choice but to use tools like this to at least attempt to filter what is recorded.

And the "most people can type" comment is silly. Why have links at all then? Let's just type everything.

sad··on Open JDK has a lot to answer for
I, for one, am quite happy to see Java take a back seat. It isn't the ideal language to driving the future of the JVM. It's Scala, and Clojure, and Groovy, and JRuby, and and and so many others that should be the driving forces behind the JVM. Java can only benefit from those as C# has benefited from the DLR and F#. As long as they don't let it atrophy into nothingness.
sad··on RestMS
I've also thought of SMTP as the ultimate queuing system. It really covers all of the bases for persistence, async delivery, bridges to every kind of network imaginable (think back to FidoNET, UUCP -- revive the bang path!), built in fault tolerance, etc.

The only thing really missing is delivery order guarantee. It isn't uncommon at all for a message to fail delivery, get stuffed into a retry bucket, and then a bunch of other messages get delivered without problem before the retry occurs. But even this is just an implementation issue. The underlying architecture is nearly perfect.

sad··on Worrying trends in programming languages: Javascript
There is a point made that anything done in flash should be doable in javascript. But flash is more than just actionscript, it's also a presentation engine that is much more appealing to those little applications that require a speedier UI.

HTML5 to the rescue. Maybe.

sad··on What is your best programmer joke?
The best programmer joke? One of my co-workers.
