"To ensure optimal security in your computing experience, make sure to keep checking social media often enough that it not only becomes a productivity hindering distraction, but also a borderline addiction."

Not exactly sure about the UK specifically, but elsewhere in Europe you can absolutely take any course that the university offers - it just wont be accredited and you will gain 0 ECTS Points, which you need to collect in a timely manner to complete your degree.
sabjut··on Orbiter Space Flight Simulator is now open source
I first discovered this game back in school at around 2010-2011 and it quickly turned into one of the defining games of my childhood. I wish I had some numbers but I am certain that I played hundreds of hours playing this game, installing countless mods, learning orbital dynamics, spaceflight history, and so much more. I flew to mars and back, landed on the moon, programmed flight computers (sometime catastrophically wrong), docked so many different vehicles in orbit and generally had the time of my life in this game. Dan's Orbiterpage and his world class mods for the game (including the excellent sound mod) really made this game (or sim, whatever you call it) shine. I probably also spent days of my life browsing orbithangar for the coolest new vehicles.

At some point I discovered Kerbal Space Program and eventually got older and had less time for Space Sims altogether, but Orbiter (especially the 2010P1 version) will remain closest to my heart.

I am really happy to see this game become open source.

Please no, my rent is already high enough as it is and more specialized and skilled technical workers in the area won't drive them down.

I knew the Government mess up the solar market but I never knew just how much incompetence was at play there. Loosing industry to China (I am still furious about KUKA) is apparently a recreational sport for the CDU.

That's what Elon Musk said too about the Brandenburg Facory ("Doesn't look like a desert so it must be ok")

But environment groups are saying that ground water levels have been decreasing for years and the factory would demand too much from the water network.

So who is in the right here?

sabjut··on EU plans to make Bitcoin transfers more traceable
I think it's really funny to see all these people think that they can with crypto game the millennia old system of taxation. Of course any sovereign nation is eventually going to break down any kinds of tax fraud.

A state unable to collect taxes ceases to be a sovereign state.

I do agree that this sounds like horrible advice to give and one that most doctors would definitely advise against.

This has to be an age related thing right? I'm considerably younger than the author but the only times when I actually had to get up in the night for a bathroom visit were when beer was involved.
sabjut··on What would you pay for autonomous driving? Volkswagen hopes $8.50 per hour
Maybe that's just not the resource efficient way going forward. Maybe in the future people will laugh at the idea of buying 2 tons of steel to sit around doing nothing for 95% of it's lifetime.
sabjut··on How to circumvent Sci-Hub ISP block
This seems to be just another small step towards a future where only pre-approved websites are accessible via the method most people will use. It will not be called banning, this is just a measure to "ensure that the content we are serving to our users is held against our high quality standards" or the classic "it's to protect the children" or to "condemn terrorism".

Porn is not really Illegal, just unwanted, which is apparently reason enough to block it. Does this mean any content which is "unwanted" can be blocked just like that?

sabjut··on Does the GDPR apply to companies outside of the EU?
To be fair the content is probably produced by a separate team which is not maintaining the actual website.

Law experts don't code webpages. But this is embarrassing nevertheless.

What are your reasons to assume that Siemens would mismanage these sites?

There is a clear difference between being on an unregistered event and being an utterly socially irresponsible idiot.

Please do not go to any raves during this pandemic.

sabjut··on Berlin rent cap overturned by Germany's top court
Well in recent months the Tesla Giga Berlin factory has shown just how fast construction can take place if the people in power actually want it to happen. Building new housing units in the city slows the increase in value of existing real estate, which is why property owners are not rushing to allow the construction of new structures. Lobbyism is a powerful force in real estate.
