If I'm Israel as long as Hamas controls Gaza I would support a blockade. If Hamas formally accepts a 2 state solution then I would change my opinion, but as it stands now the Israeli government has a responsibility to protect its citizen which to mean means limiting the ability of Hamas to acquire weapons.

There is no end to this confit regardless. It will go on as you have 2 groups with claims on the same land. Wars are won when the loser accepts defeat I don't see that ever happening. There have been multiple attempts at a negotiated solution like the Peel commision, the 1948 UN partition, or the oslo accords. All have been rejected.

Settlements are of course wrong, but I don't really see any concrete action that Israel could take other than removing settlements. Even if they did that the fundamental facts on the ground wouldn't change. I don't see how they lift the blockade and any 2 state solution seems a nonstarter.

Due to the war a lot of economies were planned circa 1945. With the war and the depression in peoples recent memory the idea of free capital allocation seemed insane.

The issue is that you are not the same person 30 years later. I am not the same person I was before I had kids. What am I regretting? I find the premise here based upon the idea that there is some magical set of choices you can make to have the perfect life and regret is assessing your delta from that perfect life. The whole concept seems flawed.

I think the issue is that you have people that are trying to apply new norms via small group social pressure amplified via social media. We have some social norms for certain attitude that no one will tolerate in polite society, but those norms are well known. In the last five years a host of new norms have been created that are enforced by small groups that don't mesh with general societal consensus.

This is a fish don't know they are wet phenomena. Government protected free speech is taken for granted here that people cannot contemplate what it means for the rest of the world.

The British army defeated the colonial army at every major encounter except for yorktown and lost the war. Hannibal was undefeated except for Zamma and lost the war. Battlefield success and war success are correlated but not determinative.

Outside of the retreat in Korea after the entry of China I can't think of an example where the US lost a tactical encounter after WW2. We lost wars but not due to military reasons. We were not defeated on the battlefield in Vietnam or Afghanistan.

I work at msft and have never had pressure to not take time off. In fact I have been reminded by my manager to do it because its tracked and you lose it at some point in time. Without the tracking people that generally don't take time will take less and people that take all there time will take more.

There are no good decisions. The nuclear threat could be used to force the whole world in to a totalitarian nightmare. The only outcome of this war is every state who doesn't have nuclear weapons should acquire them as quickly as possibly or risk being subsumed by a nuclear power.

Also the police don't come quickly in most places. My wife was pistol whipped and it took 30 minutes to get a car to our house 1 mile from the station. Also I lived in a bad neighborhood for a long time so this may not be typical.

They walked up and indicated they had a gun in their pocket. They had a buddy that was across the street. They asked for 1$ which is what I gave them. Other people I knew in the area were also robbed at gunpoint for 1$, but on their porch. They did call the cops.

In smaller cities it often took over an hour to get a cab before uber. The price was also insane.

Its so much better than taxis in even smaller cities. In Louisville to get a taxi took at least an hour uber made it minutes. I agree uber was investor subsidized but it was a good thing for a lot of people in smaller cities.

I don't think racism is structural problem Its a personal problem solved by individuals. The legacy of racism and its former codification may be structural and addressed in a structural way but they are fundamental different.

You are basically saying there is no power in integration and that the only effort for reform here should be negative consequences which generally isn't viewed as a liberal perspective on how to reintegrate people into society.
