s__s··on Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler
Do Amazon, Facebook, or Google get held accountable for what random users post on their platforms / services / servers? No.

Why are they holding Parler to a different standard?

s__s··on Reddit bans subreddit group “r/DonaldTrump”
How is such a blatantly false and quite frankly ridiculous comment not heavily downvoted after 2 hours on HN.
s__s··on Facebook Container for Firefox
Mozilla needs to work harder on the permission system for addons.

One of the permissions you have to grant to the container proxy add on is:

“Access your data for all websites”

That’s not acceptable.

s__s··on Section 230 Explained
To me that problem can be dealt with between the user, their ex-bf and local law enforcement. Grindr need not be involved, and no special internet laws need apply.

That’s a case of harassment and possibly some form of identity theft.

I don’t find your proposal tenable and it would obviously be prone to abuse.

s__s··on Proprietary Grapes Come with Draconian End User License Agreement
> Is there a reason why it's any more evil than patents on machinery or other industrial processes?

This is way outside my area of expertise, but my understanding is the patent would only prevent others from monetizing the patented technology for x period of time.

That to me would be the key difference. In this case the claim is you can’t even grow the grapes in your own yard non-commercially.

Is it illegal to infringe on a software patent even if you’re not distributing or profiting from the software you wrote?

> they have built themselves as a curated music streaming service

Not really. The expectation is that as a paying customer you’ll have access to the music you’re interested in. Their shtick has never been curation.

Freedom of speech is a principal first and an American law second.

Freedom of speech and expression is the bedrock of the civilized world, an important part of modern culture and is indeed defined as a human right in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Free speech isn’t an American thing. In fact its part of the universal declaration of human rights.

> "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers".

That’s not true. The reason they stopped live streaming is because sketchy channels were cutting clips mid stream and re-posting. Essentially pirating the content to make a bunch of cash before they had the opportunity to release the official clips.
