I see problems, and I want to solve them.

I like being meticulous, I'm a grafter, and I'm a pragmatist. I like to surround myself with people who are just as or more hardworking and ambitious than I am.

I love getting carried away in the possibilities of a cool new idea.

A programmer by trade, I'm a polyglot: I know lots of programming languages and can tune myself into the nuances of a new language fairly easily. I started coding when I was 12, and my fingers (and imagination) have been on fire ever since.

A straw man. It wasn’t exposed by saboteurs. It was exaggerated with false news stories to add to the legitimate and real concern and to keep the story in the news. The antisemitism is real. So is the outrage about how labour staffers conspired to destroy Labours electoral success. Your blindness to this obvious point is very revealing.

Edit: you seemed to have silently edited your comment to change your argument, so I’ll do the same:

> No. The "real solution" is to oppose anti-semitism with all due expediency.

And the labour leaks show that a faction of the party was purposefully undermining labours ability to do this against the wishes of the leadership. Do you accept this?

> I don't care if it was exasperated by "saboteurs". If Corbyn can't adopt this basic moral position that all humans ought to adopt, I don't care to hear any excuses at all.

That makes no sense: are you really arguing that Corbyn’s political enemies’ actions lead you to hate Corbyn’s moral position, even when it ostensibly matches your own?

Maybe you should have another think before you reply

s0l1dsnak3123··on David Graeber has died
That’s a very cynical way to interpret what I said. I was responding to Corbyn being defined as weak and of the PR mess that was exasperated by saboteurs, not providing a solution to the real problem of antisemitism.

We’re not talking about a ranked value system here, we’re talking about an organisation that can do multiple things at the same time.

s0l1dsnak3123··on David Graeber has died
The Labour leaks prove that Labour did try to fix it - Corbyn should've booted all the neo-liberals out of his party via mandatory reselections. Unfortunately, he's too decent to play dirty - but that's what's needed right now.

I think it's pretty clear that Rachel Reeves, Ian Austin et al are not allies when they are funnelling money and faking ad spend, and leaking lies to the press specifically to stop labour from winning.

(I'm not referring to all claims of antisemitism here as lies by the way, but many of the stories that broke in the Guardian were later redacted as bunk)

s0l1dsnak3123··on David Graeber has died
Yes, and there is also now proof of sabotage by the right of the Labour party specifically in order to create the narrative you are repeating.

"The 860-page document claims that “an abnormal intensity of factional opposition to the party leader” had “inhibited the proper functioning of the Labour Party bureaucracy” and contributed to “a litany of mistakes” in dealing with antisemitism, which it admits was a serious problem in the party."

Meanwhile, the Tory party gets a free pass on their rampant Antisemitism and stoking hatred of immigrants.

Can you provide examples please? I've followed Graeber for years, and this sounds nothing like the person I came to know.
s0l1dsnak3123··on Searching for 'VK' shows only a single result on DuckduckGo. Why?
"infested" is a little much, don't you think? I can sympathise with frustration on having results that don't match your language preferences, but "infested"? Come on.
s0l1dsnak3123··on Mozilla lays off 250 employees while it refocuses on commercial products
I think your critique is the only reasonable one I've read so far. Mozilla need to go back to their radical roots, refocus their energy for the new decade, above all find a way to survive which doesn't compromise their integrity.
s0l1dsnak3123··on Mozilla lays off 250 employees while it refocuses on commercial products
Exactly. Everything in the world is political: Firefox was a political statement from its outset, Mozilla is a political entity, and also - and I've yet to see an argument from anyone against this notion - Mozilla is overwhelmingly a force for good in the world. Lots of people on HN really struggle to accept this, because it goes against their own (libertarian right or anarcho-capitalist) political perspective.

It's time to start demanding more. If the constitution of this website claims this topic is irrelevant, vote with your actions and/or demand that the rules are changed.

This story should not leave our mouths and ears until something is done.

s0l1dsnak3123··on CEO of Banjo admitted to being a Neo-Nazi skinhead in his youth
Damn right I'm sensitive about Neo-Nazis gaining power and authority.
s0l1dsnak3123··on CEO of Banjo admitted to being a Neo-Nazi skinhead in his youth
He should be afforded some basic right to contribute to society - like managing a restaurant, or something. It is not appropriate for a former Neo-Nazi to receive state surveillance contracts. It is not appropriate for a former Neo-Nazi to be able to work with any kind of sensible data. Even if completely rehabilitated, their origins are - to my mind - treacherous.
s0l1dsnak3123··on Ask HN: What website, from your early days on the net, do you miss?
I also miss old-school slashdot, lobste.rs and HN are the closest communities I've found to it. I also played Rogue Spear - on a crappy rural dialup connection no less. I wasn't well liked by other players because my lag was significantly worse than everyone else. My favourite level was the airport.

Glasgow, Scotland here: I handed in my notice the other week without something else lined up. Luckily I found something fairly quickly.

s0l1dsnak3123··on Uber loses licence to operate in London, will still operate while appealing
For those of us in London who are totally fed up with bullish companies like Uber who refuse to play by the rules and systematically tread on workers' rights, there's a worker's cooperative called TaxiApp (https://www.taxiapp.uk.com) which works on a non-profit basis and attempts to give a similar experience to that of Uber/Lyft/Hailo etc.

Unlike the others, it's operated and owned by the workers - so you know that everyone is getting a fair deal.

s0l1dsnak3123··on Spain jails Catalan separatist leaders, protesters take to streets
I won't claim you are doing this intentionally, but I find it strange that you care so much about being (in my opinion) rather pedantic in this way? Don't you think it's perfectly reasonable - as a bystander and not a member of the legal profession - to apply your imagination over what ought to be and not the semantics of what is? And to engage in a debate on that basis? Do you really think that whether or not judges are free to ignore precedent has any effect on how Catalans and Spaniards feel about this decision? Or am I missing the point of your comment?
s0l1dsnak3123··on Spain jails Catalan separatist leaders, protesters take to streets
A shameful moment in Spanish history.

Keep at it Andreas :)

s0l1dsnak3123··on Why the Left Can't Stand The New York Times
It's great to see some positive left representation at HN. There's a lot of very neoliberal or libertarian politics going on in the comments round here, but I don't see so much of a socialist bent. I hope this changes!
s0l1dsnak3123··on Rockbox – Free music player firmware
I used to use this and a few other open source firmwares on my iPod when I was at high school, so I could listen to FLACs. When my school friends (I was in the musical crowd) saw it, they all wanted it too, so I'd install it for them. That would've been in 2009-2010. Those were the days.

s0l1dsnak3123··on History Will Not Be Kind to Jony Ive
That's pretty disingenuous - its not reasonable to ask the average person to take into consideration the intricate nuances of design and its impact on society when making a buying decision. If we live in a free market (we don't, by the way - especially not in the EU where I live, and thank goodness for that!), then surely it is the onus of the business to promote positive choices for society in their product selection? Because if not them, and not the state, then who else?

s0l1dsnak3123··on Britain adopts 2050 net zero emissions target
Most of the UK's renewable energy comes from Scottish wind and tidal farms. Almost all energy-based corruption (I count giving public money in any form to the coal industry as corruption at this point, given all we know) comes from the UK Government. The Scottish Government is no angel either though: they refuse to outright-ban fracking (there's an indefinite moratorium on fracking in Scotland though, which is better than nothing) and they are not serious about keeping north sea oil in the ground.
