It’s also really good for me as a very senior engineer with serious ADHD. Sometimes I get very mentally blocked, and telling Claude Code to plan and implement a feature gives me a really valuable starting point and has a way of unblocking me. For me it’s easier to elaborate off of an existing idea or starting point and refactor than start a whole big thing from zero on my own.
That’s a big flaw. The US needs to stop being at the center of everything, and now we can really see the vulnerability it causes. I hope this becomes an impulse to diversify research funding more.
My coworkers/partners and I haven’t stopped talking about it for weeks. I’m one of them I guess, but we’ll see. The ARC graph I saw, if accurate, is really incredible.
I recently created a new Cloudflare account for a project I’m working on and moved two domains into it, and the settings were both on by default without asking me about it at all. The original press release specifically mentioned enabling it by default.
> Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the leading connectivity cloud company, today announced it is now the first Internet infrastructure provider to block AI crawlers accessing content without permission or compensation, *by default*.
Well Cloudflare doesn’t even block Google’s AI crawlers because they don’t differentiate themselves from their search crawlers. Cloudflare gives Google an unfair competitive advantage.
People who aren’t software engineers need to be able to converse about these technologies, and no one outside of our world cares about the difference between LLMs and other types of AI.
> With the rise of LLM systems (or “AI” as they are annoyingly called),
I made it this far and realized the rest wasn’t worth reading. Language evolves, words change, and AI means what it means now. It turns out it’s actually really useful to have an abstraction above the concept of LLMs to talk about the broader set of these types of technologies, and generally speaking I find that these very pedantic types of people don’t bring me useful new perspectives.
No, surely this product didn’t just come to market in the last 6 months. Every problem in the world isn’t caused by Trump, though many are. Blaming Trump for hotel smoke detectors delegitimizes the legitimate problems coming from this administration.
For me, it’s increasing and increasing by the day. I have no interest in limiting or stopping it, and every day I’m working to improve my workflows and interactions either AI. And I say that as a software engineer with 20-something years of experience; I’m not a new kid on the block.
We are very much still in the middle of tangible year over year progress. LLMs are changing the world in big ways, and the progress has never been faster. On the programming side of things, the libraries and frameworks and languages have never been better and yet still have a long way to go. Consumer hardware has never been better and continues to rapidly evolve.
TikTok has changed the way people communicate and interact more than Twitter or Instagram ever did. I agree that not all things have gotten better and some have gotten worse, but it’s mostly just that the world has changed and it’s required a lot of adaptation. The same could have been said 20 years ago too.
Sure and I don’t disagree with anything you said related to social media. It’s the pattern I see that I’m commenting on. The public has largely decided, but this community’s opinions are not really reflective of larger society.
Sure, but we were _right_ back then on the bleeding edge of technology, whereas our parents simply didn’t get it. They were closed off to new ideas and the rapidly changing world. Or were they more mature, and the internet and texting and cellphones were bad ideas?
More and more Hacker News seems to be the contrarians and the “get off my lawn”s when it comes to AI and social media alike. I feel like there was a time in the late 2000s to early 2010s where we were still young and our skills were sharp and the tech was new and shiny, but the technology world kept moving and kept evolving and a lot of people…didn’t. Every day I see another post like “AI isn’t really smart, it’s just hype and I don’t like it!” or “I don’t use social media and here’s why!” or “Look at this phone I started using that isn’t a smartphone, I’m so much happier now”, all without realizing that this is just the “I don’t use the internet, it’s dangerous! My kids aren’t allowed to use it either!” or “I don’t need a cellphone, people can wait to call me when I’m home!” or “Why would I send a text message when I can just call?” of our time. People age and get set in their ways, and in my opinion in this rapidly evolving world of technology, it’s something that has to be actively avoided or we’ll get left behind.
Do they plan to disconnect it from the rest of the world? TikTok’s global nature is part of what makes it so great. But the main thing that makes it so great is its algorithm, so I’m not too optimistic about this.
Why wonder if this is “as good as LLMs can get” when we saw such a huge improvement between Claude 3.7 and Claude 4, released what, a couple weeks ago? Of course it isn’t as good as LLMs can get. Give it 3 more weeks and you’ll see it get better again.
This started as a trend on TikTok, and it’s funny to me that TSA posts on Facebook to counteract it. Trends run so far so fast on TikTok. I don’t have a source but I think I saw the original video, and it simply said that a Costco card counted as a photo ID for the _alternative verification process when you don’t have a real ID_, then someone else took it out of context and the classic “telephone game” started from there.
I could see it as well. For me currently, I’ve completed 100% of the Spanish course, and I’d like to keep learning more, but there’s no more content. I think there’s a lot of more legitimate opportunities they could find, in the way of more content, to keep me coming back. Right now to be honest I just continue using it to maintain my streak, since I’m already fluent. But! I’ve recently started learning Italian, and maybe that way they can get a couple more years out of me.
