“However, by the time we started to take Fable to market, AI was beginning to challenge the very nature of software itself, and our multi-modal bet with Prism wasn’t enough to cut through. And while we hold a strong pov on how the next generation of creative workflows should evolve, unfortunately, we don’t have the time to get there.”
Failed AI bet?

There was never any clear cause/effect. My best guess is that it was from being super tense during the surgery. I found it extremely uncomfortable and intense to be fully conscious, knowing it would be bad news if I moved my eyes during the procedure. (They're holding a flap of your eyeball open during it, etc—super fun.)
Would have requested a little higher dose of Valium if I could do it over again. :) And maybe crossed a border to a high-volume specialty shop instead of my local ophthalmologist.
My eyes couldn’t focus beyond a reading distance afterwards. No lens could get me to a legal driving eyesight.
Surgeon had no idea why. He re-lifted the flaps afterwards and flushed beneath them on the hunch that it might be from slight ripples. Horrible experience, didn’t fix it.
Hard contacts worked, but a second surgeon advised against having anything in my eye while we figured it out.
After about a year, it healed enough that eyeglasses could refract me to good vision again.
So I still wear glasses, but my vision is much better without them. (-2ish range these days.) Pretty awful experience, but I like glasses and it was a big improvement from where I was before.
One says results were not statistically significant and the other has a warning that it may be placebo effect since they didn’t have a “sham control group”.
(I don't have enough stats knowledge to know what any of this actually means though.)

But overall, the fact that it comes in aluminum cans does seem like a good thing in comparison to bottle water. No idea what the environmental (weight?) tradeoffs are compared to shipping plastic bottles though.
“CPJ is deeply alarmed by the pattern of journalists in Gaza reporting receiving threats, and subsequently, their family members being killed,” said CPJ Middle East and North Africa Program Coordinator Sherif Mansour. “The killing of the family members of journalists in Gaza is making it almost impossible for the journalists to continue reporting, as the risk now extends beyond them also to include their beloved ones.”

One nice strategy these days is having downloadable trial fonts with limited character sets. Get to use it locally as much as you want, until you need a quotation mark or a dash, etc.
Works great IMO—wish all foundries did so!
Signal is great for certain times and places, but as a daily app it's still a bit clunky and not widely adopted.
99% of the time, iMessage just does what it says and at a high quality. No bullshit, barely any spam, and OS-level integration with my other devices.
Another successful acquisition story. :)
Context: Heard something about an active shooter this week and followed a link to the Baltimore Police twitter account[0].
As I'm no longer logged in, I see tweets from 2021 and 2017 with no indication that there's new content I'm missing. If this is how public services are trying to get the word re:ongoing events, it's a terrible option.
(granted, you said journalists and politicians, not public services…)
It's worked well for me. Outside of info on my own site, there's only one broker that's exposing an old address. That one was newly found or resurfaced within the past month, so it should be gone soon. I moved in December and my new address is not at all findable in correlation with my name, which is awesome.
That said, I think the sibling comment by hunson_abadeer about "95%" sets the right expectation for most. It's a constant whack-a-mole: we're always improving our strategies while data brokers multiply and find new datasets, which they use to resurface previously-removed profiles. Happy to answer any questions.
Read through the wikipedia page[0] on how it's not recognized by most medical associations.
> a specialist in investigating deaths in custody, describes excited delirium as "a boutique kind of diagnosis created, unfortunately, by many of my forensic pathology colleagues specifically for persons dying when being restrained by law enforcement."
Or a deeper Reuters investigation[1] on how closely the diagnosis and acceptance of the "condition" is tied to police and taser manufacturers, Axon specifically. Cmd+F'ing "Mash" will jump you to the parts where they're paying the medical examiner who also happens to diagnose these deaths as exited delirium.

I can understand younger employees—or maybe those who give a shit about what they’re inflicting on others—being curious about “experiencing Taser devices”.
Making it a cult camaraderie ceremony seems ill-advised.
Opentype supported ligatures in ‘96. Postscript Type 1 and even Knuth’s TeX supported ligatures to a certain extent.
It’s a pretty standard base-level feature for any sort of typesetting.
Imo this is akin to making a terminal animation by outputting blocks of ascii art. It’s not that terminals added video playback support— which would be bloat—but instead someone pushed a standard feature to a novel extent.
