rxlim··on The PC is interesting again
But the situation here is direct opposite of the article you are linking to. Every year for the last 15 years or more, I have read the PC is dead. If every year I was reading that the PC was NOT dead, then the article would make sense.
rxlim··on My Watch Runs GNU/Linux
I like how he is sarcastic about being very happy that systemd is installed on the watch.
rxlim··on My Google Internship
I read your tutorial some time ago and found it to be very good, probably one of the best introductions to Go I have read so far. Keep up the good work.
rxlim··on Apple Abandons Development of Wireless Routers
According to the NetBSD Wikipedia page[1] the firmware in Apple wireless routers is based on NetBSD.

I have heard a few people say that their Apple router has been very reliable, so maybe it has to do with it running NetBSD, or at least I would like to think that is the cause.

rxlim··on Firefox 50.0
This is in the the bloat category:

Added a built-in Emoji set for operating systems without native Emoji fonts (Windows 8.0 and lower and Linux)

rxlim··on Firefox 50.0
I started using Mozilla Firefox 1.04 many years ago. Everytime a new update was released I was so excited to install it, as the browser became better and better with each update. I remember when Firefox 2.0 was released and I could not wait for it to be available in the Debian package repository, because it was such a big improvement.

Now I absolutely HATE when a update is released, because either functionality is removed, appearance is changed or even more bloat has been added.

Firefox itself has become the problem it tried to solve.

rxlim··on The fight to cheat death is heating up
Are there any benefits from fasting without calorie restriction? e.g. fasting for 23 hours then eating all recommended calories?
rxlim··on Felony – An open-source PGP keychain
After reading the README I think that "Felony" is a very appropriate name:

... built on the modern web with Electron, React, and Redux.

Building desktop applications with web frameworks should definitely count as a felony.

rxlim··on Ask HN: Anyone making a living off of desktop applications?
First, of course you can make a living out of desktop applications. In the echo chamber of HN you could maybe get the idea that they are no longer relevant, but out in the real world millions of people need to do real work, but don't have a stable connection to the Internet.

Second, If you decide to create a desktop application, then make it native. I must strongly advise against using any of these "web frameworks" e.g. Electron, QTwebkit etc. to create desktop applications. They are slow, bloated and probably contain many security holes because of the huge complexity of browser engines.

They only exists because many developers don't know anything else than web development, instead of learning new skills they created this abomination. One earlier post said that minumum an i3 was required for the apps to remain snappy, think about it, that is just ridiculous especially in a time where PC's are upgraded much less frequently than they used to be. I would NEVER install an application created using a web framework.

I have good experinces with Rust and Golang when creating native applications for multiple OS.
