Sad it didn't make it in. Guess I'll keep writing sober.
After working almost seven years, I went on an interview that an acquaintance told me about. The interview went very well, and shortly after I left the office, they called and offered me a job. I told them I'd need a few days to think about it.
I went into work the next day and told them, then tried to see if I could get a counteroffer from them. It wouldn't have taken much for me to stay; I was working in town and the new job would be a commute. If they could have matched half of what the new offer was, I would have stayed.
But it was no dice. I took the job.
And you know what? It ended up being the best choice I could have made. The acquaintance who worked there and told me about the job I know call "friend." I moved from a solo environment to a team. My skills have improved, the pay improved, and even the commute has turned out to be a blessing thanks to audiobooks and podcasts.
Just something to think about. Honestly, I think if you think it's time to leave, you should just go. It's time. Don't fight it.
I would have taken apprenticeship over college any day.
So what does Broder have to say about that?
"It happened just the way I described it."

I've neglected my resume for a long time and recently felt the need to update it. After considering different options, I thought "Why not just put this thing on Github?" Ultimately, I just wanted something that would withstand the test of multiple document formats over time, and a text file was the best thing I could think of.
So yes, quite literally, Github is my resume.

"Coda 2 and Diet Coda will be available May 24, 2012."
My advice for Best Buy would be this:
1. Make sure all your displays work. 2. Stop your employees from treating customers like shark bait.
That ought to do it.
"THIS IS A WORK OF NONFICTION."

Daisey doesn't understand that, "I'm sorry. I lied. Please forgive me," would have went a lot further than what he's doing now.
Sometimes I hear an idea and my initial reaction is "No," when what is really going on inside me is "Let me mull it over." The trick for me is to not open my mouth too soon before I've truly given the idea a chance to breathe a little.
1. I don't go to a meeting that doesn't have an agenda.
2. After I get the agenda, I try and work out what I can over email and phone, if possible.
3. If I can't get out of the meeting following step two, I let the meeting organizer know I'm available for 45 minutes at the maximum.
4. I leave at 45 minutes regardless if the meeting is done or not.
These principles have served me well.
(Or maybe I could, I know, I know ...)
I've been fascinated with ISS since learning about TWISST. If you follow @twisst on on Twitter and your location is in your profile, you'll be sent a tweet with where ISS will show up next in your area. It's been fun to take the family outside and look at the space station as it goes by.
I am a little jealous, though. I want to go for a ride.
Seeing this made me wish I could play it again. Excellent job.
I'm a longtime Go Daddy customer and have several domains with them.
I've thought about moving from GoDaddy, but never made it a priority. But I finally got motivated enough to see the process of switching might not be as painful as I thought. Now that I've seen what else is out there, it's go time. As my domains expire in the next few months, I'll switch them over to Namecheap.
At least for me, it's too little, too late this time for Go Daddy.

There's an excellent iOS app called TurboScan. It's fantastic. Take a picture of your receipts and it'll convert the image to low file size, but high-quality, PDFs. You can then send those PDFs to your Evernote email and have them stored neatly in a notebook.
It's a fantastic solution for portable document scanning. And with the iPhone 4s camera being so improved over its predecessors, it makes great PDFs of receipts.
It might need some tweaking.
I use Readability and Instapaper for different things. With Readability, I use the Chrome extension to make articles readable in the same way Safari does on the fly.
With Instapaper, I save articles and read them later on my iPhone, and I get a collection of articles that I've saved sent automatically to my Kindle every Friday. Saturday mornings with my Kindle, saved articles through Instapaper and French Press coffee? Life is good.
